DR vixmom, I have whined far more times on this site than you can imagine, and I don't consider your fears and anxieties over unemployment and losing a job you liked and deserved any sort of whining. I continue to hope that it all comes out well for you.

I'm glad it's cooler, but what a dreary kind of Friday morning heading into a three-day holiday weekend.

I was going to make some sloppy joes today.....but after I added the Manwich (not the whole can, just what I needed) - I changed my mind and decided to make glop.

So it is now done and waiting for consumption.

In addition to the Eileen Farrell albums named, I also had one of Verdi duets with Richard Tucker, conducted by Fausto Cleva, that I liked. Columbia stereo.

She also made a late career appearance on some audiophile jazz/cabaret recordings on the Reference label, if I'm remembering right. I'd meant to check those out long ago.

ABSOLUTELY.  How are the manufacturer and the insurance company getting away with this?

And I always think of Sheldon Harnick’s brilliant Medea in Disneyland from The Shoestring Revue. But it’s not on YouTube.

Yum, glop. My stomach is all gloopy just thinking about it.

Friday morning greetings!  The windows are open and we're enjoying some cooler temps and lower humidity.  It's not gonna last, but we'll take it for now.

Thank you all for the vibes.  I suspect it's food poisoning, but I don't know. I have long periods of feeling fine followed by short painful bouts of serious stomach cramps. I am not happy.

Last night we watched the first two acts of the Engliosh National Opera's production of Gloriana, Britten's beautiful opera about Queen Elizabeth I and the Earl of Essex. I saw this production live around 1984 when the ENO brought several productions to New York. This production was glorious, the score is really beautiful, and Sarah Walker's performance was fierce. I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough.

Going to have to see what the library has in terms of opera on DVD.

Ok, so people are making me scratch my head with their potato salad recipes, particularly the boiling of the potato. One boils it in chicken stock and adds crispy bacon toward the end. Another adds pickle brine to the boiling water. Julia Child added apple cider vinegar. Thoughts?
