Well,  you've read the notes, the notes led the way but in a good way, and now it is time for you to post until the L.A. cows come home.

Decided to listen to the nine symphonies of Malcolm Arnold - seriously wonderful stuff. If you love his film music, there's no way not to love these. There are, amazingly, three sets of the complete symphonies - one on Naxos that I know I'd hate, sound-wise, one on Chandos - I had several of those issues and hated the sound - and this box from Sony of the Arnold Conifer recordings with Vernon Handley, which is what you want. I got my set for twenty bucks (eleven CDs) about five or six years ago on Amazon.  There's only one copy available now - for $500! But search Discogs - they'll probably have one for a reasonable price.

If anyone ever says to DR George, "You're just going through a phase," he can retort:

"Yeah....   PHASE 10!"

DR vixmom, what a day! And your good deeds were rewarded with the Dept of Labor phone call. I hope that everything proceeds smoothly.

I am not sure what's on today's agenda. Very little, I hope. It's too warm.

Big loud drenching thunderstorms on the way to the theatre last night.

After intermission, the bookkeeper came to pick up the money.  She and my friend Sandi who was working with me told me to go home because a storm was ten minutes away.  They didn't want me to drive 35 miles in another barn burner.  Sandi said she would ask someone else to help her sweep the house, etc.

It's really amazing what a little bit of kindness can do....

So I got home before the rain started - it was behind me chasing me all the way.....it started up about ten minutes after I pulled into my driveway.

YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.

There's a part in that play for just about everyone!   Love it.

And today's our hottest day of the week, should be going a little over 90. Then we should be more comfortable again for a while.

So, big news:

I told DR Elmore last week that this just might happen.

The Fantasticks is cancelled. At least for this season. We couldn't completely cast it with those who turned out to audition, and there were some unresolvable date conflicts among too many people.

We'd already moved our deadline a couple of times, and had to call time of death on this one. We should already have been in at least vocal rehearsals by now, and I am frankly relieved. We were teetering on the brink of disaster.

Everyone involved still wants to see this come about, maybe even next year. But the audition turnout in the region has been horrible for a few years now, and not just for musicals. The new prevailing attitude, from the theater board to the director and yrs truly, is rapidly becoming:  F**k it -- from now on, we're pre-casting everything.

I'm sorry, DR ChasSmith.

I guess, in this case, it's for the best.

I'm with you DR CHAS SMITH.....it's been terrible this year.

DR singdaw is right You Can't Take It With You does have parts for everyone!   And believe you me - folks will come out of the woodwork.   Especially folks who shouldn't be allowed in a theatre unless they buy tickets - and even then only conditionally.

I'm so sorry this happened, DR ChasSmith. Does your team have another possibility lined up?

From DR George:

Quote
Good!  We need that reinstated here in Washington.  My sister's boyfriend told me today that two counties in eastern Washington have the highest new Covid rates of pretty much anywhere on the west coast! :o

:(

It is frustrating as I doubt this would have happened if people could have been checked for proof of vaccination.
