Big loud drenching thunderstorms on the way to the theatre last night.

After intermission, the bookkeeper came to pick up the money.  She and my friend Sandi who was working with me told me to go home because a storm was ten minutes away.  They didn't want me to drive 35 miles in another barn burner.  Sandi said she would ask someone else to help her sweep the house, etc.

It's really amazing what a little bit of kindness can do....

That was very kind and thoughtful of them.

So I got home before the rain started - it was behind me chasing me all the way.....it started up about ten minutes after I pulled into my driveway.

And obviously they were correct about your need to leave :)

So, big news:

I told DR Elmore last week that this just might happen.

The Fantasticks is cancelled. At least for this season. We couldn't completely cast it with those who turned out to audition, and there were some unresolvable date conflicts among too many people.

We'd already moved our deadline a couple of times, and had to call time of death on this one. We should already have been in at least vocal rehearsals by now, and I am frankly relieved. We were teetering on the brink of disaster.

Everyone involved still wants to see this come about, maybe even next year. But the audition turnout in the region has been horrible for a few years now, and not just for musicals. The new prevailing attitude, from the theater board to the director and yrs truly, is rapidly becoming:  F**k it -- from now on, we're pre-casting everything.

I am sorry.

From Bruce:
Quote
Yep, leave it to our idiot mayor to do this crap. EVERY case that's caused the rise involves people who aren't vaccinated. There is not a shred of evidence that those people have infected anyone who's vaccinated, but they try to infer that that's the case. There were 180 deaths of fully vaccinated people from Covid, but as always here they don't tell us if the Covid was actually the cause, which I'm quite certain in most cases would prove to not be the cause, nor do they ever report about false positives. And perhaps someone can explain why, as far as I've seen, we are the only city anywhere to do this. I'm FURIOUS. And of course the CDC has said nothing about this at all and CA is notorious for making it up as they

Stats on all this would be helpful, and what percentage of people with covid were vaccinated, or which variant they have.  True, being vaccinated will most likely keep you out of the hospital, but it doesn't mean you can't catch it from an unvaccinated person.

Bryan caught it in Milwaukee, not at work.  He does not know if it was the Delta variant or not.  He is fine now and anxious to get back to work as missed work means no salary.

He also missed holding his kid.

I'm so sorry this happened, DR ChasSmith. Does your team have another possibility lined up?

No -- nor was I in favor of going for an alternate in this crunch of time. But we're all serious about this and we'll be talking about scheduling it for 2022.

Looking for an alternate show with small cast is exactly how we wound up with I Do! I Do! four years ago. But we had the right cast for it just two phone calls away, and I had a decent partner to share the 2-piano duties with. So that one came together well, and fast. I believe that kind of lightning didn't have any conceivable way of striking this time.

Dan Shaheen called the theater a couple of weeks ago, asking about our intentions and making sure MTI had sent the most up to date materials. (They had; they seem to be much more [see what I did there??] on top of this one than has sometimes happened in the past.) He also told us he has some set pieces, props, and costumes from Broadway in storage, and offered us the use of whatever we'd like from that.

We of course inquired about Tom Jones, and Dan said that at his age now, it might not be possible to expect him to come down to see the show, but that he would keep it in mind and address it when the time comes. He looked like a million dollars when he was there four years ago, but we know that once you're in your 90s, things are going to slow down on you, and we only wish him the best.

I just read an article that mentions unvaccinated hot spots in the US.  It said only 48% of residents in Milwaukee County have been fully vaccinated.

Far from keto: a neighbor of Mom’s brought over vine-ripened tomatoes. It’s open-faced tomato sandwiches for lunch. Tomato, mayo, French bread, dill.

Well for our 2022 season - The Odd Couple is out and The Miracle Worker is in......

I kept saying who is going to direct it?  [We had an atrocious production a decade or so ago that had water ALL OVER THE STAGE and the theatre floor because the dumb bell wanted the audience to "feel & experience" the moment as Helen does.....

That no one seems to want to direct it doesn't seem to bother anyone......and of course that's how we ended up with Pillow Talk - The Experiment.....

Fresh ground pepper and a nice Himalayan or sea salt, too?
