A review by Publishers Weekly was a perfect example of why I try to avoid reading reviews prior to reading the book.  It gave away part of the story that isn't mentioned until near the end of the book.

This is also why I never read reviews before reading a book (only look at ratings). I also never read the book blurb right before reading a book for the same reason.

There are three or four words my fingers always want to type wrong these days -- which I swear I never had a problem with all the rest of my many lives.

Hell. I forget what a couple of them are. I'll have to wait till it happens again.

But that's one of them:  "couple". The fingers always type "copule" first. I curse them out every time, but it hasn't done any good yet.

We have two 90-degree days now, so I'm taking a two-day break from the outdoors work. I was out there laboring four days in a row, which might actually have been a first for me. So I deserve a two-day break, damn it to hell.

This morning I had a tomato that had to be used, and two avocados which felt about ready. And a couple (see above) slices of some great bread. So I hatched a brilliant idea. I cut the tomato into thick slices, heated some olive oil in a pan, and put the tomato slices in. While side one was cooking over a low flame, I sprinkled liberally with dried herbs, granulated garlic, and salt & pepper. (I wanted some grated parmesan which we usually have, but we didn't this time.) I turned the tomatoes over and sprinkled side two, gave them a couple more minutes on the flame, and voila! - I had some form of grilled tomatoes on my plate. I then toasted the bread and mashed an avocado on it. I've never had actual avocado toast, but I suppose this served as a form of that, too. I laid the tomatoes on the slices of toast, and ate them. And OMG. Delicious.

This is a bread that's new to me, and I'm crazy about it:  Rustik Oven Whole Grains and Seeds Bread. (I think that's the name.) They also have a sourdough and an "artisanal white". I think that not all the stores carry it, but it was a happy find at my local Shop Rite. It has a wonderful texture and great flavors.

It's a much quicker read than my previous book, which was good, but even though PHM has a lot of science, it's easier to read.

I am also finding the science easy to read, just don't ask me to explain any of it ;)

From Vixmom:

Quote
The ihop used to make the chicken crepe with chicken, avocado, mushrooms onions and  hollandaise sauce , they change it to no avocado, added tomatoes and changed the hollandaise sauce to a cheddar cheese sauce

When I order it I have them make it the original way

Many restaurants will do that, at least for awhile.  They would be foolish not to do that since it shows you are a regular and they want your return business.

I don't mind reading the book blurbs, though I often just read a bit of it and return for more info once I am into the book.

I agree.

I find many excellent reviews on Goodreads, however, I recently saw the worst review I have ever seen.  The review was fairly short, didn't mention much about the bulk of the book and THEN.... The reviewer completely gave away the end of the book.

Goodreads lets you know if there is are comments under your reviews so you can read them.  The reviewer never replied to the upset responses that the book had been ruined, and never corrected the review.
