Something I've always wondered -- when these casts did their numbers on TV, is the house band playing, or were pre-recorded tracks used? I think the typical TV band would have had to be sweetened with additional players in many cases, right? And if it was tracks, were they only instrumental or did they include the vocals to be lip-synced?

Baayork was one of the originals, but the other two replace Margo Sappington and Donna McKechnie. Watchoing it I realized some of the harmonies are probably coming from the four girls in the orchestra pit.

I've been thinking about this and here are my thoughts:
1. The Ed Sullivan Show often had dancer and opera stars so maybe they had a standard Broadway-sized orchestra that they augmented when needed.
2. Many of the players might also be playing Broadway shows since Ed Sullivan was on Sunday night when theatres were dark.
