Well, it's off to the post office for me, and then the trek to the chiropractor in not-so-nearby Batesburg-Leesville.

On the way home, I shall avail myself of one of the food establishments along the way.  Possibly KFC, Hardees or Taco Bell.

If only we could figure out a way to get the Earth to stop tilting on its axis, we could avoid all of these time problems.

Are you quite sure it doesn't mean "The Thing from Nubia"?

DR Elmore, I hope your feelings about the recording project are able to be turned around.

I don't know. Much as I want to record the lineup, I'm tired of the constant it's-on-it's off-nonprofit-LLC-nonsense and feeling defeated at the moment. I have no work, I'm up to my butt in debt, I have no money for food or most of my monthly bills, and I]m really sick of the struggle to keep my head above water.

Back home again.  Trip to chiro was uneventful.  I stopped at KFC and got a tenders bucket for lunch.

And then the ride home was fraught with squalls and mists so thick I could barely see more than ten feet ahead of me.

But, those episodes did not go on forever and it was smooth riding after a bit.

It's very wet, it's very darkish, and I am in for the day.

Does anyone ever insert "I've Got No Strings" from Pinocchio into this score?

Why would Standard Time not be the time everyone should be on?  Why is Daylight Savings Time be the one they want?  Isn't that the made up/phony time?

That's like making counterfeit money the standard currency.

:)  Absolutely :)

Back from a happy Sichuan lunch. Cold noodles, crispy chicken, smashed cucumber salad, pork belly. Happy.

Last night on Chris Hayes' MSNBC program, I heard a journalist named - I think - Michael White, who's in Kyiv, give ther theory that Russia will lose big because the Putin and gang corruption has come home to roost. The government pays, for instance, billions to make 150 tanks. After all the stealing and skimming of govt. funds by Putin's cronies, only 50 tanks get made, but the papers say they've got 150.

I hope he's right.

Ditto!!

DR Ginny thank you for recommending The Lions of Fifth Avenue.  Have you read any other books by Fiona Davis?  If so were they as good as this one?

It seems that yesterday was the day in 1962 that No Strings opened. People have posted reminiscences, so here’s mine, even though I never saw that or any other production, which I regret because it must have been a very special moment in musical theater history.

One evening in 1963 (I was 14?) one of my parents’ friends from church came over to our house and asked if I could play through some songs with her and another friend so they could try out a few solos and duets. My one memory of that evening is her opening her brand new vocal score of No Strings to "The Sweetest Sounds" and setting it in front of me. It was all new to me, and I was transfixed. The song was simple and lovely, but what also blew me away was reading from a Broadway vocal score for the first time. Playing the authentic accompaniment to this gentle Richard Rodgers tune, and seeing all the other information the score provided, was a thrill. I began buying vocal scores shortly thereafter, and to this day, I look at my shelf and cherish seeing my own copy of No Strings, always remembering that night. And I still wish I could have seen a production.

That's a great story, ChasSmith!

I started buying some vocal scores in the 1990s and I ordered the revised scores to both Assassins and Merrily We Roll Along a couple of weeks ago.  Assassins arrived just yesterday but Merrily is taking a bit longer.

I also have the original editions of both, and just about every other Sondheim vocal score. :)

Yes, DR Jane, I’ve read all of Fiona’s books.  The Lion book is my favorite, of course, but I also liked THE MASTERPIECE and THE CHELSEA GIRLS.  Just finished her latest THE MAGNOLIA PALACE.

Wouldn’t it be fun to do a Fiona Davis tour of New York City?
