The Bijou has closed in San Antonio. It's the theater that used to show foreign and independent films. And I spent some quality hours there with Eric Rohmer, Ozon, Herzog, Wenders and more.

Parasite was one of the last movies I remember seeing there. Also remember the New York Philharmonic's production of Company. Snowpiercer. Swimming Pool. White Christmas.

Oh the Painter and the Porch Man should be friends.

Yes the Painter and the Porch Man should be friends.

One man likes to swing a brush, the other thinks there's too much rush....

But the Painter and the Porch Man should be friends.

LOL!

An office exercise back in the day was writing a musical version of Beowulf. My opening number was The Pagan and The Priest Should Be Friends. By the end of the number, the priests had killed off the pagans and started imposing the patriarchy on England.

Our library sent back our copies and got a refund.  I think I'd heard that other libraries kept theirs and may have re-catalogued them as fiction, but I don't specifically remember the details.

I find it interesting you returned your copies.  The book was A Million Little Pieces by James Frey.  We discussed it yesterday, and the difference between lying about the content and being up front about the changes you made.  Most authors are open about the changes, at least I think they are.

If I remember correctly, the author wasn't up front about how much was fiction, or that any of it was fiction, which was a deciding factor in the return.

It didn't help that Oprah was angry after having raved about the book.

He broke rule #1: Don't get Oprah mad! ;D

Angry Oprah is the title of my next novel. Or would Angering Oprah be better?

If you're paid by the letter, then yes! ;)

Starting to watch C'mon C'mon, which got rave reviews. Joaquin Phoenix. Independent movie in black and white. I'm 22 minutes in and it all feels so fake. I used to like movies that were filmed on no budget, but I don't remember them feeling this forced or fake.

Maybe it's just Oscar bait. ::)

Shall we sing a round of "My Garden" from Celebration?
Or "Come to my Garden" from The Secret Garden?
Or "Make Our Garden Grow" from Candide?

My first thought was "One More Walk Around The Garden" from Carmelina.

Had La Fogata for food - big mistake. Instead of just getting my usual two beef tacos, I got one and then a bean and cheese and guacamole burrito, just to try something new. One had a choice of sauce so I chose red, not really knowing what that meant. The taco was fine. The red sauce on the burrito was rank, smelly, and disgusting, taste-wise. I removed the burrito from its container and scraped most of it off and then ate most of it. But I am so sick to my stomach now it's not even funny. I hope it doesn't get worse. I never did get my Pepcid package today and I only have two or three left here.

Today, a conundrum.

I received in the mail a copy of People magazine. From the cover, it looks like I have a year's subscription.

But I never ordered one, and if I had the money to spend, People would be my last choice.

Did you have a subscription for Entertainment Weekly?  If so, People is your new magazine.  Entertainment Weekly has stopped publication.

That always happens at the libraries...they'll just start getting this new magazine with an expiration date on the mailing label and no notification that it's a fulfilment because another title is no longer being published. ::)

You'd think they'd at least let them know.

That's good.  I remembering the magazine clerk telling me that a couple of libraries called her, asking why are they getting this new magazine and she'd call our vendor and THEN they'd say, "Oh...it's a fulfilment."
