DR TCB, the more I hear of what should have occurred in Uvalde and all that did not happen only fills me with more rage. I ewish I could drop a bomb on the NRA convention beginning today. As Sweeney Todd says in Epiphany, "They all deserve . . ."

I, too, love Flower Drum Song, which I saw with my mother at Middletown's Paramount Theater. To this day I have no idea why she was excited to see it, since she seemed apathetic about movie going. After seeing it, I read the original novel, although I now remember little about it. The vocal score was one of the first scores I purchased in high school, and I played the music for the bridal procession to death.

I've never minded Russell Bennett's work on the show, and I think the only Broadway show he truly bombed out on was Bells Are Ringing. On the other hand, Edward Powell's film orchestrations are really wonderful and match the film's bright colors and pizazz.

I saw the Broadway revival of Flower Drum Song, which I didn't dislike; I thought it was unnecessary. All I remember now aboutt it are the dancing Chinese food containers. When I talked about it to my late friend Bruce Pomahac, his comment was "just be glad they dropped the rape scene."

I know that CBNS is now owned by Paramount, but I am so sick of CBS' continuous pimping of Tom Cruise's new Top Gun sequel that I wish it no good whatsoever. Every news announcer gushes overe how much they look forward to it, its cast is on all the talking head sites, and I would not be surprised to learn it's being plugged in all the prime time programming as qwell. Enough, dammit!

DR Elmore — Flower Drum Song

(oh good lord, I first typed Flower Drum Dong)

was one of my early vocal scores, too, but I think in the second wave because I distinctly remember what the very first ones were. But the bridal procession music drove me crazy, too, right from when I first saw the movie. (Sadly, I never saw it on stage.) Those harmonies and the rhythmic pattern were absolutely infectious.

Now you both have me needing to re-hear the original cast recording. I must have listened to the film version much more.

At one point I began reading the C.Y. Lee novel and didn’t finish it, but I remember really enjoying it. I’m taking it off the shelf right now.

The rains poured forth about 3 in the a.m. today. I awoke wo the sounds of what seemed the heavens falling on my roof. I then promptly returned to dreamland. It is currently gray and about 70 degrees. The forecast promises some sunshine and a high of 84.
