I loathe that Some Like it Hot thing - it's so typical of that composer - all pastiche all the time. But now we know what a musical version of Some Like it Hot would have sounded like had it been written by Cahn and Van Heusen. Unfortunately, wrong time period. I've had it with this pastiche crap, frankly. You find none of that in the Sugar score by Styne and Merrill, whatever you think about it. It's also something I purposely avoided in The Brain from Planet X - anything that sounded like 1950s rock-and-roll, which every other sci-fi musical spoof set in the 1950s has done. I had one song like that in the show originally - the original Rod and Donna song - but after our staged reading I took it right out and wrote Good Girl/Bad Girl. And that's why the score and show works.
