It was quite the day yesterday. I left the house at 3:00 pm, topped off the tank at BJ's ($2.95), and got on the highway with what normally is time to spare. Because one learns to always build in extra time when driving into the city.
Just outside of Danbury, disaster struck in the form of road repair at a major (very major) interchange that I had known nothing about. It cost everyone there - count 'em - 30 minutes to cover ground that usually takes a little over one (1) minute. Lesson learned: Just because one is in one's own territory and knows these roads like the back of one's hand, one must no longer hit the road to ANYWHERE without first picking up one's device and checking traffic. Never again. What, ever? No, never.
I called and warned DR Elmore about the delay. There were a couple more little things that slowed us down, but I took every advantage and drove as aggressively as I was willing to do and stay safe, and I was on the Upper West Side only five minutes after the appointed time. Fortunately, the amount of time we'd built into the short trek to the theeder district was more than sufficient and we pulled up in front of Joe Allen like royalty, DR Elmore got out, I got parked a block and a half away, walked back, and there was BK, walking from the other direction.
