I'm back from rehearsal with Mr. Kevin Spirtas.  We finished singing through the second act, and I made one further order switch and now it all feels really good.  Then, my favorite part - we started staging the act.  We got three songs in and we'll continue tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday.

Oh, come on.  Stop lollygagging--you should have had both acts done and completed a film and your next novel in one day.  I mean, really, didn't we teach you anything in Portland?  ;)

Today was the first day of my summer History class. Oy. OY!

That about sums it up.

You're studying the History of Summer?  That's got to be one big textbook.

Well, since DR JMK took leave without supplying a Page Seven Dance:

I love the Purlie poster art.  Purlie was my first Broadway show (the first one I remember, anyway--my mother claims otherwise.)  I can't recall any of the cast but I do remember the singing, dancing and sets.  And I particularly remember looking up at that bright green poster above the marquee.

Quite enjoyed guilty pleasure EMPIRE again tonight. Octavius and Tyrannus were thrown in a slave prison guarded by gladiators in training. Lots of testosterone in every direction (Dennis Haysbert guest starred as a Roman general of the 4th Legion whom Octavius came to for aid in his attempt to regain control of Rome. They were all taken prisoner.

Again, great high definition imagry, superb Dolby DIgital 5.1 sound, and not historically accurate in any way, shape, or form.

DR Ben - Yes, Nick is hot.

;)

I'm glad you were able to get down to see the show.  I haven't been to Mill Mountain in ages.

Diane Pennington - WOW! - I haven't heard that name in years.  She used to do a lot of stuff in Richmond.  -And wasn't she also in Close A Little Faster .. er... I mean... Dance A Little Closer....  hmm..

...Or maybe I'm thinking of someone totally different....

I just checked the IBDB... Yes, Diane was indeed in Dance A Little Closer.

Whew!  At least I'm not that brain dead after rehearsal.

WATCH THE SKIES! ended up as a mixed bag. I'm glad the science fiction films of the 1950s, both superb efforts like THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN or B-Z grade stuff like TARANTULA! or THE DEADLY MANTIS, are getting their due, but the topic was SO broad that an hour was not nearly long enough to do the genre justice, especially since the last quarter hour became an extended trailer for Spielberg's WAR OF THE WORLDS. Great to see those scenes especially in comparison to the 1950s version, but other wonderful films got passed over simply for lack of time.

The four talking heads used throughout were James Cameron, Ridley Scott, George Lucas, and Spielberg (with narration by Mark Hamill). They're marvelous directors, but I didn't need them to tell me the plots of the films being shown. I could have used less of them and more film clips with Hamill's narration.

I've always loved the score to PURLIE, but I haven't listened to it in ages. I'm not sure I even have it on CD.

Yes, there was a point this afternoon when I waited and waited for the page to build and finally gave up. I came back five minutes later, and the pages loaded just fine. I think there must have been a slowdown all over the web because several other sites were very, very slow to come up, too.

...Nick was great and oh, boy is he hot. He spent the show in a toga with his chest showing. Besides being hot, he's a genuinely nice person and I really enjoyed meeting him.

Are we speaking of Nick Dalton? He's the first Nick with an amazing chest and good personality that comes to my mind. He and I did IRON MASK together in May. Nice guy...

I was pretty disappointed in this doc, too.  I had a sense beforehand that it was going to wind up as a promotional thing for WOTW, but I still hoped that it would be more interesting than it turned out to be.  It did, however, give me a great hankerin' to see Invaders From Mars again.

Getting late right about now, so I must carry myself off to bed.

Hopefully tomorrow I can finsh the LARA CROFT movie.

Gerard Butler has a fairly heavy Irish brogue in it. Does he use that while speaking in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA? I don't remember it during the vocals. I think that's all I heard in the little bit of PHANTOM I saw/heard at my friend's house over Easter.

Me, too, DR Dan. And I couldn't believe they spoiled the ending for those who hadn't seen the film! That should have been left out!

Would it have killed them to make it a 2-hour documentary and be a little more in-depth?

I watched a really misguided show on A&E called Family Forensics. Where a family goes on a vacation and a forensics team comes in and uses their tools to discover everything they can about the people. It sounded interesting on the ads, but it really is uncomfortably voyeuristic, even by today's standards. I really can't figure out what family would actually volunteer to submit to the search.

They go so far as testing teenage boys sheets for bodily fluids and searching computers for internet porn. Really weird. Then they tie it up with a little "counseling" to make you feel like the family got something good out of it.

Hello all
Well, I've finally caught up on all the posts I missed over the weekend.  As I think DB Jed mentioned, we have returned from Reno still as yet unmarried.  We did have a wonderful time, however.  I'm slightly sunburned, only on my right side though.  I have a fun sunburn line right where my purse strap lies on the side of my shoulder.  We saw some friends, lost a bit of money, and enjoyed the sheer tackiness of the place.  Good times, good times.

One comment on the past TOD -  I do have a fondness for Streisand that Jed teases me about mercilessly.  My mother raised me on Babs and Judy...I couldn't help but grow to like them.

I just ordered a bunch of old 1950s Japanese horror and crime films on DVD...but don't tell Elmore3003, because I am supposed to be saving my money for New York.

Yes, I asked Diane about the show and she referred to it as "Close a Little Faster" I didn't want to use the term, out of respect but since she brought it up.

She's a wonderful person. She has adopted a child and is settling into her new life. She is voice talent in a few Disney flicks and she worked a lot in the DC area. She and Bobby Smith are old pals.

Yes, Jason, it's Nick Dalton. Jose's friend is in Forum with Anthony in Virginia and then he's going out to Long Island to do Full Monty.

It was fun being with the cast this past weekend. Many times people will ask if I miss being in "the business" and I usually say (and mean sincerely) no, I don't miss it. But at times like this past weekend, I do miss certain parts of it. That camaraderie with a cast and the intense bonding that goes on for 6 or 8 weeks is great. They were all very nice and for 3 days I was part of their group because of Anthony. That's when I miss being in the the biz. I don't miss the down time, though. I spoke to Anthony today and he said everyone was realizing that this is the last week and on Sunday it will be over. Some are going on to other work (Bobby Smith will be doing Frog and Toad in DC, Nick, Full Monty) and others will just be going back to respective homes and starting the process all over again. Ant will have a long drive back to New York and then we will take some time out on Long Island to just relax and get to know each other again. I'm glad he was out working but I'm glad he'll be back.

It's 1:04 AM and I'm never up this late. What's going on. It's raining and there is lightning. I must go to bed. I have a meeting at 11am tomorrow.

Goodnight all.

Jed -- The comps are in my name at the box office.  I had no control on where you are sitting, but hopefully it isn't directly behind the orchestra.
