I've always been fond of the poster for the Pasadena Playhouse production of Accomplice, by Rupert Holmes.  The image was of two hands, one female (above) holding a key, and one male (below) palm extended upwards to catch said key.  Why pass the key along?  The two hands were handcuffed together!  Nicely clever.

I also prefer the British National Opera poster for Pacific Overtures over the original.  The recent Broadway revival's image didn't appeal to me at all.  (And the Assassins poster has always make me think of "Pull my finger!"   :P)

Well, I tried to call my Father this morning and got his cell phone.  I just spoke to my sister-in-law in Ohio, and my Father's in their garage working on his boat!  I guess this means he's not coming to visit me this week, and I guess he forgot to tell me in the past two weeks that his plans had changed.  I love him dearly, but right now I want to kick his ass.

However, this is a weight off my social calendar.  Thank you, Jesus!

My favorite movie poster and Broadway logo are reproduced below.  I think the savvy readers here at HHW will be able to tell which is which!  ;D

Off to the theatre to CLEAN for the opening this week - and then have a full rehearsal.

Thankfully PIPPIN isn't singing at the small barn tonight, so we don't have to deal with ALL that noise - not that it's NOISE exactly!  It's just distracting.

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from The Meryl Streep Rehearsal Studio!  -Class  of '71, I believe.

I'm sitting in on the orchestra rehearsal.  Just listening.  Taking notes as needed.

-Just finished the first the first two numbers...Very nice.  Small band - just four players: piano, winds, cello and percussion.  Larry Hochman is doing the orchestrations.

I'm up, I'm up.  I always forget, but they do a parade in my neighborhood.  So, there are people walking up and down my street and I can hear parade music coming from a few blocks away.

Laura: Finally, someone posts some fireworks!

TREMOLO, baby, TREMOLO!

elmore: I don't know what's more annoying - that your father neglected to tell you about his change of plans, or the fact that he has a cell phone.

Good poster choices all.

Will do.  He'll be up here tomorrow and Wednesday.

-And Emily Grishman is doing the music copying.

*I have to say for a workshop production, they really do "slurge" up here.

I'm wearing my Red, White, and Blue Speedos and am romping about like a gazelle in pantyhose.

I shall try not to eat prior to the barbecue, and I shall try to eat reasonably once there, for I have definitely lost a few pounds in the last few days and I want to continue the trend.

Lots of people walking up and down my street.

What is Jose working on?

Hmm...

So who's not reading the posts now, huh?

;)

Short version:
Phone call late Thursday night - a "musical emergency".  Worked out the details and deal Friday morning.  Trained to NYC then Poughkeepsie early Saturday morning.  Sat in rehearsal Saturday afternoon.  Played rehearsals yesterday.  First orchestra rehearsal today - as I type this post, in fact.

Show: Dangerous Beauty (following from the NYSF Website)
Music by Michele Brourman, Book by Jeannine Dominy, Lyrics by Amanda McBroom. Directed by Sheryl Kaller. A romantic and powerful new musical set in the opulent, decadent world of 16th Century Venice. A beautiful young woman treads the only available path to education, power and her upper class lover by taking on the life of a Courtesan. Based on the movie of the same name, also written by Jeannine Dominy.

*Which is why I passed on greetings from Amanda McBroom the other day.

They only run this weekend.  And I'm only here through Thursday night, first performance.

My favorite Broadway posters:

Candide (1973)
Follies
Into the Woods
A Little Night Music
On the Twentieth Century
Wicked
Annie
Mack and Mabel
1776
The Music Man
Dear World
Mame

My allergies are kicking my butt today.

It's a beautiful day in Oakland, CA.  We had a very nice, cool evening.  Today should be warm (but not L.A. warm, which is HOT).

Happy 4th of July to my American compatriots.  And howdy to the rest of you for whom the 4th is just another day.
