We did that with my dad, too, who died right at the onset of the pandemic. He was no longer conscious (to all appearances), and my sister and her kids had all said their goodbyes. She called me from his room to have me talk to him for a minute and tell him it was okay to go, as she had done, because even though I couldn't be there, she thought he needed to hear my voice say it was okay, too. He went first thing the next morning.
