Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

Oh I did get some potentially good news. Remember the ID theft where someone fraudulently rented an apartment in North Carolina under my name? I spent hours going through steps to contest this with the various grifters and agencies, filing police report, sending certified letters, etc. This after all three credit bureaus told me sorry, their investigations indicated the debt was mine. I received my first follow-up investigation result from one bureau, Experian, who say the disputed charges are no longer on my credit report. So maybe the beginning of the end of that madness!

Wonderful news, Rodzinski!

I have lijed various TV versions of Nero Wolfe.

Jim Hutton as Ellery Queen

I loved Ellery Queen as a kid! But there was one episode that really spooked me as a kid. Someone was murdered on an elevator or something… Really kept me up that night.

Nero Wolfe! I also loved the William Conrad version of that. Lee Horsley, as Archie Goodwin later became Matt Houston!

Later, in my 20s, I did some work for Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. Digitizing old reels of Minute Mysteries radio spots in hopes of reviving them.

Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine is still going, with the same editor in chief since I was there in the late ‘90s. Comforting.

Then I hunkered down and finished Mare of Winningham. I know that I'm in the minority here and maybe I would have liked it better had I not seen superior shows like Happy Valley, which is clearly the role model for this show. But I've seen four or five like this and they're all exactly the same - dreary, depressing, unhappy people doing bad things to each other, family woes, and a murder to solve that becomes almost silly in its three twist reveal that simply defies credulity. The last two episodes were especially illogical and most of the last episode is endless yakking, and then we get the final third twist (if you can call it that) and it's just, for me, not believable at all. There's no question that the actors do a fine job, but the truly awful characters, especially the surly ex-boyfriend of the murdered girl and his gal pal - horrible, both - never pay the price or face anything. Winslet is excellent, though, but it's the structure, which borrows heavily from the Swedish and Danish similar series, where every episode has to end with a cliffhanger development, a new possible killer, etc. However, for me, the worst thing is the music, by some composer I never heard of - it's literally all wallpaper, sound design, and droning. At the end, we get some piano octaves before the final fadeout. I mean, it's so ludicrous and one can only hope that there is a sea change at some point.

Had some popcorn as my evening snack. I'm still hungry, but thankfully there's not a single item of food that's edible, so I'll just have to be tough.

Currently playing, the beautiful Pastoral, his third symphony - that and the fifth are the most beautiful.
