Reading the Verdi book. It starts with a very long chapter about Verdi's life, and how intertwined it was with Italian statehood. And his long battle with censors. But it also briefly encapsulates the entire history of the development of Opera. Verdi and Wagner somewhat overlapped. They were each trying out different methods of music drama.
