Ketchuping!

Yesterday DR Ron Pulliam asked:
Quote
Among all those alien clothes, did you find a shirt or pair of pants that you now refuse to believe you would ever have worn much less paid for?

I have such a photo of me in a shirt...and I recall thinking it looked SO GOOD on me.

Now, I am happy I wasn't simply shot on sight by the fashion police.

YES. Some of it was quite old, things I hadn't pulled out of a drawer or closet in some years. None of it was as horrendous as, say, finding one's 1970s clothes (I'd actually LIKE to see a couple of those things again), but just poorly chosen crap. So good riddance to all of it. A few pieces had to go right into the trash, and the rest is in a box in my car, ready to be dropped off at the first thrift store I stop at whenever I go out next.

I like everybody's lists for the TOD.

Like DR IRIS and others I was going to say DDL as Abraham Lincoln, but I will also add Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.

DR RON PULLIAM's list had some nice folks including Susan Hayward as Jane Froman.

I also liked her as Lillian Roth in I'll Cry Tomorrow.

Jessica Lange as Frances Farmer in Frances - although the movie was very misleading.

Sissy Spacek and Beverly D'Angelo as Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline in Coal Miner's Daughter.

The person you need to speak to is Joshie, since he orchestrated it for a smaller ensemble when it was one of the Encores! summer shows around seven years ago. I do know that the Marc Blitzstein estate is now intertwned withb hte Kurt Weill Foundation and I believe they now handle the rights to The Cradle Will Rock.

Looks like that was ten (count 'em) years ago, and it's too bad Cradle was so far off my radar back then, because I looked up the reviews and it sounds like it was an excellent and well received arrangement and reading. Damn it to HELL. There's a copy on Premiere Opera that will have to do. And I do remember reading about the Blitzstein/Weill thing now.

TOD Addendum:

Sam Rockwell as Bob Fosse and Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon in "Fosse/Verdon".

I was thinking of Rockwell as Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

And speaking of chili with or without beans:

Last night I opened up my penultimate can of Cincinnati chili (Gold Star - I have one remaining can of Skyline in the cupboard). I'd been craving it for a while, and last night was the perfect time for it. I always do a five-way, so, beans plus onions plus the grated cheese on top. I think I made about 2/3 of a pound of the spaghetti, and ate it all, which is a lot when you add a goodly amount of the toppings. But oh, yum yum yum. And I don't mean a maiden in Japan.

Anyhoo, DR Ron Pulliam had also related his horror story about the "chili water" on a hot dog. Horrible.

The Cincinnati chili places also serve "Coneys" - hot dogs with the chili mixture, cheese, onions, etc. - which I have yet to try. Of course this kind of "chili" is a thin mixture with a sort of pulverized meat component along with a great blend of spices. I wonder if that place was attempting this kind of thing, and failing miserably.

I absolutely go for chili dogs being made with a standard no-beans mixture, and Hormel's is perfect for it, very similar to how I remember the Nathan's ones tasting at Coney Island. But because of the incredible blend of flavors in Cincinnati chili, I will plan on having the supplies and trying one hot dog with it when I open my last can.

I just learned that my friend John Wilson has conducted complete recordings of Oklahoma! and Carousel for Chandos Records.

Yes! I forgot to mention it, but someone posted that in one of the Facebook groups a day or two ago. What wonderful news!

TOD

Lots of good ones already listed. I'll add that I happen to love it when you start watching one of these things, and the actor initially looks so far removed from the real person that you think it's just going to suck. And then he or she turns out to be so good at it, that you soon forget that initial distraction and completely buy it.

Anyway, a few favorites or sort-of-favorites for one reason or another:

Both Anthony Hopkins and Philip Baker Hall as Richard Nixon, and both Anthony Hopkins and Toby Jones as Alfred Hitchcock. Toby Jones is an odd looking person in the first place, and he wasn't a great Hitchcock and the whole production rather sucked, but I did get used to him as it went on.

Another two characterizations of the same person are Philip Seymour Hoffman and (yes, again) Toby Jones as Truman Capote. AND in those same two films, both Catherine Keener and Sandra Bullock as Harper Lee.

It's enough to make your head spin.

DR JohnG, the complete recording of Oklahoma! is due for release on Sept. 15. I need to send John Wilson an email, and I'll learn more then.

That's exciting!

John, I’m not clear as to what ails your hand.

Did you say that you had received cortisone shots to numb the pain?

I apologize if you have explained it recently.

Last Wednesday, I woke up with severe pain in my neck, left shoulder and arm. I have since had a massage, two acupuncture treatments, two visits to emergency clinics and electroshock acupuncture. The last is the only one that seemed to help. Today I see an orthopedic doctor.

Are you able to move your neck and arm?  When I pinched a nerve in my neck the pain was so intense I couldn't move either.  PT slowly helped.

Well, Access-a-Ride screwed me over this morning. I am not amused in the least. I just rebooked my doctor's appointment to June 7.

Oh, no!
