I cannot imagine my childhood being any different than it was.  I was outside almost all the time during the days...playing with friends, riding my bike.

I never see kids playing outdoors any longer.  And there are children in my neighborhood.

Well, there was one when I first moved here.  His name was Billy Bob (!!) and he rode his bicycle all over my neighborhood.  He was a good, decent kid with whom I had several conversations.   He and his dad were evicted from their small house some years ago...his dad was/is itinerant.  Billy Bob went away to live with his mom.  I have seen his dad out walking from time to time.  I have often wondered if he was on disability, although he walks well enough.

I did not like the TerryToons that appeared on Captain Kangaroo....

Mighty Mouse I think got his own show later....I hated Tom Terrific and Heckle & Jeckle.

Yes we are having fine weather here in time for The Race.

The Race that used to have ALL of the state of Indiana in a tizzy...nothing was talked about for the entire month of MAY.  It was an event not to be missed.

And now it's just another race....no checkered flags in all the small towns....no parades or convertibles driving around small towns with beauty queens in the back....no discussion of all of the drivers and arguments over who is/was the best.....

It's just another race.

I always enjoyed the Race weekend in Indy.  I lived in Lawrence (a suburb northeast of Indianapolis) for five years.

On Race Day, I would drive around all the city encountering very little to no traffic.  Everone was either at the Brickyard or home watching TV.

Awww...poor Heckle...poor Jeckle.

Did you, at least, like Foghorn Leghorn?  Or Droopy?

I still don't think the race is broadcast live in the Indy market.....there is a tape delay in the evening on race day.

If it was on television and Annette Funicello or Lucille Ball weren't in it, I was usually not interested.

Little Lulu, Little Lulu
With freckles on her chin
Always in and out of trouble,
But mostly always in.

Using daddy's necktie
for the tale of her kite,
Using mommy's lipstick
for the letters to write.

Though the clock says 7:30
it's really after 10,
Looks like Lulu's been
repairing it again.

Though she's wild as any Zulu
And she's just as hard to tame,
Little Lulu we love You-lu
just the same, the same,
Little Lulu we love You-lu just the same.

I, and our zero guests, are simply aghast and agog.

We loved Joan Davis, Burns and Allen, December Bride and Cleo the talking Bassett Hound.

And there were Soupy Sales and Pinky Lee!

Holy moley on rye - just got the Eventbrite ticket report for the June 10 show - there are only twenty-six seats left. Over eight tickets sold so far. Then there'll be some standing room if anyone wants those.

I do miss race-day excitement. Jim Nabors serenading us with “Back Home Again in Indiana” all that stuff that made the whole month a delight. Still seemed well-attended last year. I’ll have no way to watch this year. As a kid, we had to avoid the news during the day and watch on ABC tape-delay at night.

Sometimes it feels like it started only a couple of weeks ago, and sometimes it feels like it started six months ago. :o
