Chores done. Not that I'm exactly proud of what I've accomplished. But it is a holiday, after all.

I got most of the yard around the house mowed. There are things that must be reconfigured and dealt with by hand, which will happen another day.

Then I unkinked the string in the trimmer (weed whacker), filled its tank, and...

   (wait for it)

It wouldn't start.

No matter what I did.

So I explained to the neighbors in all of the surrounding households exactly what was going on with my many attempts to start it, in an oration that I hope would have made vixdad proud -- if only my voice were able to carry across the Sound.

So, well, the hell with that.

The HELL with it, I tell you.

The rest of the day shall be for leisure.

I hauled out the suitcase. Need to think about packing.

Not actually pack, mind you. Just thinking about it.

George, I like the keychains from your sister.  Would you use the handy one for all the gadgets on it?

From DR Rodzinski:

Thank you. Their new place is quite nice, I’m told. I’ll see it tomorrow.

I hope you agree.  I hadn't realized you have never been there.  Did your in-laws go with your wife to tour it?

I have had my coffee and two cheddar cheese and egg biscuits.  Yum.

While it's lunchtime, I consider myself as having had brunch.

So far it is, as expect, clever and funny.  I particularly liked the reference to "involuntary suicide".

I had a rather strange-ish dream overnight.

While it's a bit wispy, I was pushing a loaded-down basket toward an elevator.  The door had just closed as I got to it.  I pushed the up button.

Several people suddenly appeared and wanted to go up as well. When a different elevator opened, I had no room for me and the basket, so I waited for a returned elevator.

When a third elevator door opened, I got in and looked for my floor number, but there wasn't one there.  I wanted the second floor, but it seems that elevator was an express only to the 12th floor.

I couldn't stop it, and when I reached the top, it wouldn't go back down.  So, I got out with the basket and waited for a different elevator.  When I got on and started down, I realized I didn't have the basket with me.

I returned to the top floor and the basket was nowhere to be found.

I then woke up in a sweat.

I do not like those kinds of dreams.

TOD:

Just about anything with either Andrews or Garner.

Edwards:
Victor/Victoria

The Great Race
Days of Wine and Roses
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
The Pink Panther

I didn't realize he directed Days of Wine and Roses.  I should have known this since I love the film.

Warm thoughts for Mrs. Rodzinski today as she moves her parents into assisted living.

The roughest part of growing older is caring for those who brought us into this world and raised us.  Caring isn't the hard part, because it is the caring that matters most of all.

The hardest part is often borne by the parents or other elderly relatives who must give up their "home" and independence.

I fully expected to spend years with my mom when I retired and moved back to South Carolina.  I never imagined or foresaw that I might be settling her estate at the one-year marker of my return.

It's heartbreaking when you know you are doing what is best for them but entrusting them to someone else's care.

I wish only the best for you, buddy!

It was sad and shocking watching from afar.  I imagine it gave your mother great comfort having you settled with her in your home.  As a long distance child, it would have been hell had you still been in California.

When my Alberta dwelling in-laws needed assisted living my SIL was able to find a place that provided them a little apartment with a living room, bedroom and private bath

Nice.

I am busy packing my toiletry bag, including my medications, for a month.  I figure it will be easier than restocking every time we come home, plus it is best to pack extra in case we don't come home in-between the procedures.

What I need is for my missing thyroid medication to arrive.  I only have 10 days left, which means I will run out before we return home.  I do not want to deal with the side effects of my thyroid being off.
