Mom fell for a scam call that was supposedly from one of her grandsons. She sent off $1,500.

Dad fell for a similar scam a few years later. He was already suffering from dementia. The CVS manager recognized something fishy when Dad was in such a hurry to get $3,000 in cash cards. So, no money was sent that time.

In neither case could you tell either parent not to answer phone calls from unidentified numbers.

My mom knows a woman who really got taken.

She was talked into believing that she won the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes and needed to send money (which she did several times), to get the winnings...which, of course, does not require payment of any kind.

She sent more than $65,000!

They went to work on my mother in law a couple weeks ago on Facebook. Fake profile of her nephew asks if she’s applied for the special grant the Canadian govt is giving to seniors. Tells her she needs to talk to this other guy who starts instant messaging her, pressuring her for information. She luckily doesn’t give them any info and tells them to contact her daughter (my wife). That was good except she gave them my wife’s email and phone number!

Some of these scammers are just awful. There’s one who has called me several times, purporting to be from my doctor’s office. “How are your knees doing?” he asks. I’ve never had trouble with my knees so I knew he was a scammer.

Got a nice surprise notice via email - just a little irritation involving CD Baby that has apparently been solved.

Yesterday was Mammogram Day. Oh, joy. Never a pleasure. Not far into it I had to ask if I could sit down for a few minutes. The technician was very understanding and told me that some patients faint. (I didn’t faint.) After that I was OK. It was negative, as I expected.

I stopped at my favorite food store on the was home and they had several of my favorite treats. I bought the strawberry mousse (sooo good!) and one of their mini apple pies. Everyone deserves a treat after a mammogram.

Men don’t know what they’re missing!
