One is that Christine Estabrook read the part of the Baker's Wife for the first reading at Playwrights Horizons and "how strange it was to be a non-singer starring in a new musical."

If I remember her episode, they weren't concerned at that first reading that she couldn't sing, because Stephen Sondheim was performing all the songs...they just wanted someone who was a good actor to act the script.

She talked about how she had done that original reading but that Robert wasn't involved in the show until the Broadway production, so they never worked together...they both were involved in the show, but at different times.
