I am so tired of a minuscule extremist group destroying this country.

I would go back to 2000…abolish the electoral college and have straight majority vote for President. Also abolish the congressional districts and have a statewide vote for congressman. The ones ( however many each state is entitled to) with the most votes go to DC an d represent the whole state.

I can’t even think about all of that right now. Too depressing.

A question:

I wanted to see how I’d described something way back in one of my earlier posts here (like, early 2012), and was surprised to find that the index stops in September 2012. I guess I’ve never looked back that far before, but I thought the index of postings went back quite a bit farther. Were the earlier years on different software?

Looks like the column archives of BK’s notes go all the way back to the very beginning in 2001. I thought the discussion pages might, too.

EDIT:  I don’t need to do that search. Just wondered.

About an inch of rain (0.91 to be exact) fell this morning.

The early microwaves were six feet tall and weighed 750 lbs.  So that photo is a bit misleading.

I wonder if this was posted here before. I do remember hearing about his plans to do it, and it apparently happened about a year ago. Tom Lehrer has released all of his songs and lyrics into the public domain.

Mike Barnacle and Chris Matthews discussed Johnson on "Morning Joe" a few minutes ago.  The view was more positive than I thought it might be.

Matthews thinks Johnson -- despite his MAGA association and having been a "voice" to overturn the 2020 vote count -- could do well and keep the MAGA element in the House happy.

Meh!

As a court show watcher, it's been my observation that as soon as a defendant proclaims himself/herself a decent Christian, they're guilty as hell and neither decent nor Christian. The new Speaker is playing the same game.

I just spent an hour and a half "clearing brush".

(Note:  not a euphemism.)

So actually, about 50 minutes was spent pulling brambles and stuff, cutting a few things with the snippers, that kind of thing. Guess what the remaining 40 minutes was spent on.

I'd better just tell you. It was spent pulling tiny burrs off my work gloves, my shirt, my jeans, my shoelaces, my cap, and some skin just for good measure. Nothing painful, though I definitely wouldn't want to fall into a patch of whatever this is. As for what it is, I'll have to do some googling or asking around. It seems to be a kind of weedy growth that's new to my property, and I certainly wasn't expecting it. I'm used to forgetting myself and walking through some weeds and having to pick burrs off my shoes, but these are tiny little things that just take forever to pull off.

Tom Lehrer can always make me laugh.

Thanks for the link.

I was wondering if he was going to share his actual piano arrangements from when he recorded these, as opposed to sheet music versions or those from the "Tomfoolery" book. Not so. BUT...it also doesn't much matter because many of the songs are very simple in their accompaniment so they are indeed pretty faithful to what he played. And I transcribed the extended "Vatican Rag" piano part decades ago and could probably still play it right now. If I had a mind to. Which I don't.  :)

"New Math" has an interesting note. He says it would have taken so many pages to actually write out the 2/4 patter rhythm he plays through much of it that he didn't bother to try including that. He's got the chorus and all the lyrics and spoken parts there.

DR ChasSmith - there are many apps that allow you to take a photo of a plant and it will tell you what it is. The one I have works very well.
