The DVD of The Court Jester, while an early effort from Paramount, is widescreen, enhanced, with great color.  If you're watching it on anything smaller than a 36inch TV you'll be very pleased.  I'm hoping they'll redo it at some point, because they're so much better at transfering now and it would be a lot sharper.  But, it's a very nice DVD and a must-have.

TOD - Here at work today (first Saturday since July 2).  I just went up to the A-V department and checked out The Court Jester on DVD.  I remember seeing The Man from the Diners Club in Ellsworth, Maine, while there on vacation with my parents.

Well... I thought a bunch of us were going to get together to go to some "Maize Maze" today, but no one has called... Hmm... So...  I think I'll make some phone calls and then head over to The Clark to check out the art.

...Or at least venture out of my room for a bit...

Well...technically, WHITE CHRISTMAS is not a remake of HOLIDAY INN...in fact, the only thing they have in common is the song White Christmas...entirely different plot and characters.

Of course, it has one of the worst songs ever written by Berlin.  Some friends of mine constantly debate whether WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A GENERAL WHEN HE STOPS BEING A GENERAL? is worst than MR. MONOTONY.  Come to think of it, WE'LL FOLLOW THE OLD MAN ain't so hot either.

Just returned from an estates sale that was in a decrepit old house out in the countryside. Not much good stuff, but there was a nice
Waterfall dresser that I would like to get...but they were selling it as part of a bedroom set...not that anyone was buying (!) on this second day of the sale. I left my number in the event the decide to split the set.

I did pick up a cute red and green, metal 1930s garden wagon for $6 which will make a nifty looking planter for my back yard.

We watched it too and sang the songs.  I liked "Thumbelina", but "Inch Worm" was always my favorite - that was from HCA wasn't it?

I love "Inch Worm" and "Anywhere I Wonder" from HCA.

Does anyone have a good Pesto recipe?  I usually buy it, but everything is so fresh right now, I'd rather make it

DS Betsy has several great recipes for pesto, including an amazing one that's really low-fat (believe it or don't) made from nuts.  We have THE REALTOR here in a few minutes to appraise the house, but I'll try to get her to post it later today.

DR Jane, if you have a spare fridge, keep your flowers refrigerated overnight. It will help them last for quite a while.

Also, when they are starting to die, you can hang up them upside down and spray them with hairspray.  Then you will soon have a lovely dried flower arrangement and you will be able to remember the bouquet for many years.

Well what a tough choice - BUT, for my favorite Danny Kaye film, I have to go with WHITE CHRISTMAS for three reasons:

The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing
Choreography
And Miss Vera-Ellen!

The Court Jester a very close second.

I will also add THE MAN FROM THE DINER'S CLUB just because it's so wacky.  Black and white with some great support by Cara Williams (a long time favorite of mine) and a GREAT BIG computer!

Songs NOT from movies:

Danny does a wonderful version of Madame I Love Your Crepes Suzettes by Cole Porter....I only have it on a double Decca LP of his songs.

Trivia: (not as good as Rodzinski's) CBS couldn't decide whether to slot Judy Garland on Wednesday or Sunday.....James Aubrey who hated Garland gave her Sundays opposite BONANZA and Kaye ended up with Wednesdays after powerhouse shows like THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, GREEN ACRES, and DICK VAN DYKE, and ran for a few seasons.  Garland lasted, barely, until spring.

Telegram from Aubrey to Garland:  "We love you.  You're great.  You're through."

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers. Today I primed a stucco wall for painting. Now DR Sandra and I are off to see the tour of "Little Shop of Horrors," which I've never seen. I don't know from Danny Kaye.

Jennifer thanks for the flower tips.  The arrangement won't fit in the frig but the air conditioner is on.

DRLaura I suggest you watch a couple of Danny Kaye movies, at least "White Christmas" in December.
