I ended up staying for the second piece, I Have Loved Strangers. The play was written by Anne Washburn, and like Triangle it was basically written this summer here at Williamstown as part of the leapFROG program. The Act One Company of actors became the guinea pigs, of sorts, for both pieces - a play and a musical.
I Have Loved Strangers draws some of it's material from the Book of Jeremiah in the Bible. A truly haunting piece. I'm still digesting it, thinking it through. I'm not even sure how to describe it. I want to say Expressionistic, maybe even with tinges of The Absurd... I just really don't have the vocabulary right now.
However, what amazed me most about the piece was the fact that the same troupe of actors who are in Triangle are also in I Have Loved Strangers - the Act One Company. Not only did they rehearse both shows at the same time, but they also presented both shows in the same evening. Back to back. Amazing work. All those lines. The completely different styles of each piece. The physical demands of each piece. WOW!
