I just learned that Betty Auman, who was in charge of acquisitions for the Music Division of the Library of Congress, when I met her in 1987, has died. She was a dear friend until our friendship fell apart in 2010 in a disastrous concert and recording debacle of Life Begins at 8:40 and her failure to replace an incompetent conductor. At the moment my emotions are all over the place, remembering both the great times in London and the various concerts at the Library of Congress and the frustrations, betrayals, and ugliness after 2010.
