I sent in a question to the TV Chat at USATODAY this afternoon that was used. I asked the critic if the new HBO series ROME was going to acknowledge the bisexual nature of the ancient civilization in the series. He said it was, so we shall see how that gets woven into the fabric of the usual sex and violence that goes with stories about ancient Rome.

Watching THE STORY OF ESTHER COSTELLO....Joan Crawford circa 1958. Whew! I remember seeing this movie when I was about 11....on late night television....

Just returned a while ago from MY THREE ANGELS rehearsal. How is it possible for ONE actor to be in the exact WRONG spot onstage for every moment of the play? How can someone be so unaware? I am supposed to be in the middle!

Yes, I saw it was a veritable Joan Crawford festival on TCM. I have the DVR set to get FLAMINGO ROAD this morning at 4 a.m. I have it on laserdisc, but it will be so much easier to burn a DVD directly from the DVR rather than running cables from the laserdisc to the DVD recorder.

Gene Kelly is portraying Lautrec's "Chocolat" so the costume should be forgivable.

Seems like TCM is going to be running the four public domain Rathbone/Holmes films tomorrow night. Glad I have those sterling UCLA releases that I can watch any time. They look so marvelous.

Sadly, my biggest bedroom problem is sleep apnea.

It's amazing to me how quickly one can fall into and out of an infatuation/crush/love/whatever. The Greek and I were having a conversation via instant message during which I was teasing El Greco about a post-breakup tryst that the Greek had with the Ex. The Greek said, "Oh stop! That was with someone I love." Love. In the present tense. That was my "Aha!" moment. All I could say in response was, "I know." A person can't compete with that, and I'm not foolish enough to try.

And so the saga would seem to come to a very disppointing end. And of course, the song playing on my stereo now? "If in my two hands I could hold her face/while my fingertips kiss her eyes and lips/and make them love and light and shine/that would take two other hands - not mine." How's that for sucky timing?

It's a good thing the powers that be at work know I'm flexible. I was already an hour into my workday when they asked me to stay an extra hour. "Sure," I said, "Just let me call der B to let him know of the schedule change."

So, dinner was an hour later, too. Good thing pork chops don't take long to cook.

It's nice to be wanted.

...Currently listening to Renee Fleming's "jazz" CD. Hmmm... I don't hate it - like some people do - but I'm not sure just how much I like it. Yet. However, Fred Hersch and Bill Frisell sound wonderful as always. As for Ms. Fleming... I'm just wondering if there are any old personal tapes of her "early" jazz and big band performances. It would be interesting to hear those... and to compare.

So... I meet DR TPunk down at Splash. I meet some of her friends who met here there too. We walk out to the main floor so that we can watch the Dreamgirls Act One Finale on the big screens. When we get there, she introduces me to her friend, Jay. He works at Disney Theatrical, where Antonia worked. So, we're chit-chatting between musical numbers, and I mention that I'm from the DC/Richmond area. Well, he says that he went to school in Richmond. At VCU. Where he was a theatre major. DING! DING! DING! "JAY!! WOW!!!"

It turns out we knew each other back in Richmond while were in school. In fact, I had slept on his floor a few times up here in New York City when I would come up here during college since I was good friends with his roommate. Just such a small world. And such a happy coincidence. Truly made my evening. *And I have to say that Jay looks great. He was always "cute", but he was skinny cute - stick skinny. Well, he's filled out a bit, and has a nice tan now.

Hopefully, we'll be able to catch up in a quieter locale sometime in the coming days.

In the mail today came an eBay package for me, and in the package was a CD of the original London cast recording of Noël Coward's After the Ball. I'll listen to it tomorrow at work then listen to the new Kritzerland release of the revival.
