Maybe I will find time to change my avatar later today.  And I did!

Happy happy birthday, Jrand!  And indeed, what a fine new avatar!

Interesting about BK’s experiences with Laguna. Except for a couple of drive-throughs to show out-of-towners, think I was there a grand total of twice, both times in my first few months in California.

The only food I remember was discovering my first ever baklava pastries from some little bakery or something on the highway on the north side of town.

This was in 1972. Anybody remember 1972? I remember 1972.

But enough about 1972. Who brought up 1972, anyway?

DR singdaw, it was good to read about the weekend adventures of our DR vixmom.

It’s unfortunate that she couldn’t be here to ketchup on them along with us, but I’m sure she’ll be along to ketchup on her own ketchup as time permits.

Heinz didn't have 57 products when they launched. That number was selected by Heinz randomly.

Monday morning greetings from Grand Blanc, Michigan!  Yesterday was the surprisingly festive celebration of life reception at the golf club where my sister and her husband have played for 50+ years.  Today is the more somber internment of ashes at Great Lakes National Cemetery with military honors.  Fr. Richard planned the service and is co-officiating with the Methodist minister from my sister’s church.  We’re only allowed 30 minutes in the cemetery pavilion, so it will be short and sweet.

Ah, yes, I remember it well.

I was in Jacksonville FL, working at the Naval Air Station in the Message Center.  I was a Radioman Third Class and vastly overqualified for the tasks set before me, like making coffee, being one of four who performed "field day" in the center while the others took a long break, and whose other role was printing messages on a mimeograph machine.

But, why dwell on the ugly things in life?

I loved Jacksonville and explored it every chance I got.

Made a friend who is still a very special person in my life thanks to Facebook connecting us two years ago after a 50-year gap in our communications.

Why am I ruminating about 1972 when it is Jack Randall Earles' birthday?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACK!

Where was Jack in 1972?  That's what we should all want to know.

What was 22-year-old Jack up to in those halcyon days!

TOD:

There are several getaway places I have enjoyed that aren't too far, distance-wise, to deter that anjoyment..

Greenville, South Carolina
Pawley's Island, South Carolina
Asheville, North Carolina

Each of those places has a special beauty for me, and I have a history in each.

A life so worthy of both celebration and mourning.  Sending more vibes of comfort to you and Richard and your whole family.

My update. I have not been well these last several months. Suffering from lymphademia which makes it difficult to walk and having heart issues as well. Today is an ultrasound on my leg to see if they can find a cause. In two weeks I will have a heart monitor installed in my cheat.

It's so horrible to hear that you're going through this, Michael.

Sending wishes that the condition is being contained successfully, and that you're getting the best treatment available.

Sending some of those HHW vibes that the ultrasound works to find the direct cause.

In August of 1972 I was the assistant manager of the largest Ben Franklin Store west of the Rocky Mountains.

Most of the folks I worked with were very nice and the customers were, too.....usually.

I hear ya, Michael.  You hang in there. Modern medicine has made great strides in treating these issues over the past couple of decades.

Be well.

Today is a Monday (in case anyone hasn't noticed), which thankfully means tomorrow is a Tuesday... and what does Tuesday mean once a month, boys and girls??

CLASSIC TUESDAYS!

And what I'll be seeing tomorrow evening at the Bedford Playhouse is Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret in VIVA LAS VEGAS.
