The Human Condition, films released in six parts from 1959 to 1961, was filmed in something called Grandscope.

I ended up making pasta - it was okay, not great - Rao's Vodka Sauce - a little acidic.

I was lucky enough to see James Earl Jones on Broadway in The Best Man back in 2012. Not sure what I was doing in NY - I know I was there in 2011 shooting the first two Outside the Box episodes. Hmmm. A starry revival it was, though - in addition to James Earl Jones we had Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, Candice Bergen, Eric McCormack, Kerry Butler, Michael McKean - all were fine as was the play. But I didn't love Michael Wilson's direction, which seemed unfocused and lax, if memory serves. Well, I guess I can go look up what I thought and see why the HELL I was there.

Rao's is usually so reliable.  Was the sauce past its freshness date, maybe?

Amazing cast. I saw Actors Theatre of Louisville’s production of The Best Man back when I was in high school. Victor Jory starred. That’s about all I remember, except the set was excellent and I loved the play.

That was 1976, an election year. I was a freshman.

Okay, now I know why I was there. Book signing at the Drama Book Shop for Album Produced by and Sandy Bainum's nightclub act. As to The Best Man, I clearly LOVED the play and all but two of the cast, who I don't name but I can pretty much tell who they are. Michael McKean had apparently been injured a couple of weeks before so Mark Blum was in - an actor I've always enjoyed. And yes, I found fault with the direction, which was overtly busy - the set apparently moved and did things that were completely unnecessary, including a coffee table that apparently had a mind of its own. As if the director were afraid to let the play just be. But I did love it - I call it exactly what it is - "a good, old-fashioned talking play." And they left it in three acts, which was the right thing to do.

Might that have been the trip where Walter Willison offered a suggestion that I try to get cast as Susan Boyle on a show like SNL?

And you and Larry had to explain to Walter that telling a guy he could play Susan Boyle was not a compliment.  :)

Hmm, in this photo, I can sort of see it.  Walter said I wouldn't even need a wig, just a little "zhuzh" with the hair.

Maybe that's why I grew a beard, to not look like Susan Boyle.

Sandy Bainum's nightclub act at the Metropolitan Room was fabulous!  Was that the 2012 act?
