The new Carousel recording arrived this morning, so I've just listened to Act One. Both the Bench Scene and "When the Children Are Asleep" moved me to tears, and I like the cast. I don't think Billy should sing in "Blow Higfh Blow Low"; he's a slum kid and I don't think he knopws a thing about whaling.

I do think the Hornpipe tempo and some of the Carousel Waltz are played too fast.

My friend Nate Hackmann is wonderful, and Mikaela Bennett, who plays Julie Jordan, was Penelope in the Encores! vproduction of The Golden Apple. She's very good.

DR John I hope you were pleased with your visit today.

Ha. The problem doesn’t appear to be the neck. That’s all I learned.

I never saw Jane Camion’s film of Portrait of a Lady, and I may not finish it. I’m 20 minutes in, and I can say so far that these are the worst performances I’ve ever seen from Mary-Louise Parker and Viggo Mortensen, two performers I generally like.

I did love the book when I read 35 or so years ago.

It lacks the knowingness that the Merchant Ivory films of Henry James novels.

DR Jane - some online programs, and perhaps some unemployment programs, require you to create an ID.ME account. I believe I had to do it when I wanted to file my Federal taxes online. Or perhaps I am misremembering.

I think I went through it at some point, at any rate. In my mother's case, she has to do it to qualify for the state's elderly tax rebate program. What are they thinking, making the elderly, who may not be tech savvy, go through a difficult process?

Sounds like a Republican plot.

As long as John Malkovich and Barbara Hershey are on the screen, the movie works. Nicole Kidman is too mannered. Shelley Winters is a gorgon. Shelly Duvall is supposed to be off-beat, but she seems not to hear any beat at all. Martin Donovan is one note, and not the right note.

DR Rodzinski mentioned the memoir by Richard Fleischer last week, and I found an inexpensive used copy which arrived today.

Two very successful Access-a-Ride trips and I am home. I have a kidney issue that has my doctor concerned, so I have a homebond test to be accomplished soon.  She also gave me grief about not drinking enough liquid daily.
Stay hydrated. This was a huge problem with Mom. Don't repeat her mistake.

I use "flavor enhancers" to help with drinking water.  Usually no calories and a whole lotta flavors to choose from.

What brand of flavor enhancers has worked for you?

I'll check later when I'm home.  It's not so much the brands as it is the individual flavors.

Thank you, George!

Here are most of the different brands and several flavors that I have right now:

tonight FLOWERS returns to the stage for its final four performances.

I hope there are at least as many people in the audience as there are onstage.

There were 37 presold for this matinee of Pride and Prejudice.

I am wondering if the increase in covid cases has anything to do with the lower numbers.

Not in this case.  It's a weekday matinee and you have to pay for downtown parking until 5:00 pm.  I don't know why they chose to do this, but several evening shows that I ushered for recently did sell out.

DR JohnG, I confuse Love Lies Bleeding with Kill Your Darlings, about the Beat Generation and Caleb Carr's father.

I don't know Kill Your Darlings. After reading My Beloved Monster, I am intrigued.

I highly recommend it.

Very good movie

A cheeseburger would SO hit the spot.

We had cheeseburgers yesterday

I get the burgers from Aldi , less than $8 for 4 ( so we each have one and save the other two), seasoned with Penzeys Chicago steak season and their Smoked paprika , then ( this will sound awful but it works,,)

Pop into the preheated air fryer ( I know, I couldn’t believe it either until I tried it ) 4 minutes a side, then cheese it up ( extra sharp for Vixdad, Muenster for me , 2 slices each) for another 45 seconds …

I use their brioche sesame rolls,( unless I’m feeling extra fancy then I use their brioche everything rolls)

Vixdad gets mayo, onion, lettuce and sliced tomato on his, I get guacamole and sautéed mushrooms and onions on mine.

( I do the sautéing while the airfryer is preheating and burgers are cooking)

The whole dinner takes about 15 minutes to make a the burgers are perfect medium rare and with the airfryer no smoke, grease , no mess and very easy cleanup

Been hankering for a hamburger lately. Maybe a cheeseburger will hit the spot.

I've tried the Five Guys burger couple of times recently.  Really high quality, especially for its relatively reasonable price.

They're not really "relatively reasonable price[d]" here on the left coast.  They're on the pricier side of burgers around here. :-\

They used to be reasonably priced but now I can make 4 burgers for less than the cost of one and fries at Five guys
