Damnitall!! I just read that Ms. Lynda "Wonder Woman" Carter will be playing Mama Morton in the LONDON production of CHICAGO. Why can't she do it on Broadway where I could actually see her!?

I just recieved a bag of vocal selections from my pal, Mark, who is streamlining his library.  There are a few things that there doesn't seem to be a recording for:

Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen
Your Own Thing

And hasn't Woman of the Year been issued on CD yet??

Anyone have any insight?

Ummm....I think someone named Kibble or something like that released Woman of the Year many an eon ago.  ;)

And Your Own Thing has been out for a couple of years.

The "other" Bruce (Yeko) has been "announcing" a studio cast of Lovely Ladies for the past several millenia.

Well, we are seeing Beauty and the Beast tomorrow courtesy of TDF. Anthony has never seen it and I haven't seen it since before I met him. It's being done at Mill Mountain Theatre next spring/summer (where he did Forum). We're seeing it so he can know what role he's "right" for when he auditions.

Or is this so you know his lines too, and in case the pauses are too long you can jump in and help him out  ;D

DR Ben: DP Anthony would make a great LeFou if his ankle is strong enough for it.

I didn't realize Mill Mountain was doing the show - and we license it! Do you know if they audition non-Eq?

DR Jason, is it Lynda Carter or Dixie Carter?  I can't quite picture Lynda Carter having the "oomph!" to play Mama Morton.

Well they say Wonder Woman, so DR Jason must be correct.

Yes, Jason, they use a mix of Equity and non-Equity at Mill Mountain. I think the auditions will be in the late Winter both in Virginia and here in the city. It's a nice place to work. The theatre is new and well maintained and the living space for the actors is very nice.

I am listening to the LATW production of the supremely silly J. Edgar!  I must say it's made me laugh out loud several times, and I believe it was even intentional, unlike so many musicals these days.

I have this, also!  I recorded the LATW production of Falsettos off the Internet (Ben, check your mail in a few days!) and I wish I could buy that.  It's not even listed on their website, www.latw.org.

I love ALL the Dietrich/von Sternbergs, including Scarlett Empress, but there's something about Morocco and Blonde Venus that make them a little more special for me.  Blonde Venus, of course, has one of the most sublime musical numbers ever put on film - Hot Voodoo.

I've never seen Rollover so I can't say whether Kris Kristofferson was miscast as a Wall Street Whiz, but I think in real life, he was a Rhodes scholar.

I always think he's miscast because he's a lousy actor, at least in the films that I've seen him in.

I concur about ROLLOVER. After a long string of hits starting with JULIA, this Jane Fonda movie was DOA. It was laughably bad as I recall.

MattH, how did you get invited to the critic's preview?

Well, I was a film critic for 25 years and my name is still on a few lists.

See? That's why I love this site so much all the new stuff I learn.  I shall have to see if I can get my hands on a copy of this.

Just back from lunch.

Had a dim sum feast at Richie's, which is celebrating its anniversary this month and taking 30% off every check for dim sum.

I have leftovers that will feed two people.  Should be enough for my supper!

I have WOMAN OF THE YEAR on CD, but I suspect it's out of print now. It was issued early in the CD era.

The day is cool and cloudy/grey here in Oakland today.  Last night the weatherman said that tomorrow, for sure, there'd be sun.

I guess I'll just have to stick out my chin and grin.

You can find one via Amazon.com for $79.99

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002ZBL/qid=1126728381/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-4495702-9743307?v=glance&s=music

Apparently it was issued on Razor & Tie label in June 1997.

EBay may be a bit price-friendlier if you look there.

There are lots of 20s movies I love including THE CIRCUS (first and foremost), SHERLOCK, JR., SHOW PEOPLE, most of the Lon Chaney movies I've seen, BEN-HUR, THE BIG PARADE, FLESH AND THE DEVIL, THE SHEIK, THE COCOANUTS, BROADWAY MELODY, WINGS, SUNRISE, and on and on.

I did not know that.  I only knew about your former life as a teacher.  How does one become film critic? For that matter how does one become a food critic? Or  theatre critic?

As for 1930s movies, I wouldn't want to take up all the bandwidth for the forum with my list.

Five off of the top of my head:

THE WIZARD OF OZ

THE LADY VANISHES

ANNA KARENINA

THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD

CITY LIGHTS
