I have zero plans for today.

Happily, that includes appointments.

I must get all my ducks in a row for the coming weeks.  My cataract surgery is next Thursday.  When i get my colonoscopy I have three days of "not" taking certain meds; and then I'll have about a week for my second cataract surgery.

I have thought about Christmas in all of this and have decided there will not be any extreme measures of decorating.  A wreath on the front of my house and some flameless candles in the front windows.

I know that Thanksgiving is in there somewhere, but I can give it a pass.

Other than all the malcontent I have just displayed, I am doing well.  Slept very well.

It's another gray day in the CSRA.  We have had quite a bit of rain over the past two days.

Helene cleanup continues.  Every day, I notice local yards are becoming tidier.  This area is a wood lover's paradise.  Many folks have had fallen trees cut up and stacked alongside the road.  If anyone needed/wanted firewood, they could have it free of charge and be most welcome to it.

It is 44 degrees headed for 64 degrees, but I don't think we'll make it.

I forgot!

Seven years ago today, I reaveled around 6:00 to upper Manhattan to pick up a kitten I had seen, loved, and applied for on the Saturday before. I felt that Annabelle needed a playmate, and I found him at a Petco adoption. His name was Thatch, and I had to travel to his foster's apartment to pick him up. The adoption approval came though on Nov. 7, which was also my parents' wedding anniversary, and I remember making the subway trip after checking out the locale on Google Maps. I liked the fostering couple, and they were fostering several young cats including Thatch's sister. I wish now that I had adopted her, too.

Twenty days later, our DR ChasSmith came to visit and take the official photo of Thatch and his daddy.

Lumbricus terrestris

On a day when the world is weighty,
  dark and dense with need,
I want to be the earthworm
that gives itself over to tunneling,
  its every movement an act
    of bringing spaciousness.
And when minutes feel crushed by urgency,
I want to meet the world wormlike,
    which is to say grounded,
      consistent, even slow.
No matter how desperate the situation,
the worm does not tunnel faster
      nor burrow more.
It knows it can take decades
    to build fine soil.
      To whatever is compacted,
the worm offers its good worm work,
    quietly bringing porosity
      to what is trodden, compressed.
So often, in my rush to repair,
    I end up exhausted.
Let my gift to the world be
my constancy, a devotion to openness,
my willingness to be with what is.
Let my gift to myself be patience
as I tend what is dense and dark.

I made some ribs (boneless) with some Italian diced tomatoes and a freshly chopped green pepper and some bacon bits.

They turned out pretty good.....so I'm set for at least a couple of days main dish wise.

The Mighty Jen just left. My new HP printer/scanner is humming along, and I just printed a 113-page Vaughan Williams score for his complete incidental music to Aristophanes' comedy,  The Wasps.

That visit when I saw Thatch for the first time was very special. Annabelle had just cuddled with him for the first time, and I was ushered in ~~very quietly~~ so as not to disturb the tableau. It was unforgettable.

I don’t have anything interesting to report for the TOD, but I will affirm that LA’s geography, among that of many cities, is particularly mistreated.

A great contemporary example of them not giving a flying Wallenda about the geography is the show “9-1-1”, in which Hollywood, Burbank, downtown LA, the Santa Monica pier, and other easily identifiable locations are but five minutes apart from each other… and the emergency responders are never more than a couple of minutes away from the scene and always get through the traffic just fine.  It’s quite miraculous, and this even extends to locations in the mountains surrounding LA.

I woke up to excellent news, our congresswoman was re-elected and the nazi failed once again.  She won by a slighly larger margin this time.  I wish the margin had been greater.
