Ennio was a wonderful documentary. The music is exceptional. His scores for The Mission, 1900, Cinema Paradiso, The Untouchables and more are given their due.
He was a master composer.
It will probably seem rather idiotic to read about this, but film music fans -- a few of them at any rate -- insist on rating individual composers as the best or greatest of all time. Some think Jerry Goldsmith was, or that John Barry was, or that Ennio Morricone was, or that John Williams is.
For me, it's so asinine, because i love all of them and others, too. My favorite score and movie of all time is "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Elmer Bernstein. I don't have to justify that or explain it in any way. It just IS. And that's okay, because I have almost equal love for many other scores, among them David Shire's "Return to Oz", the masterpiece among his really incredible works, IMO.
"Ennio" is a great documentary.
