My favorite moment of all on SNL was when Sigourney Weaver and Christopher Durang did Das Lusitania Songspiel. Sadly I can’t find a video of that on YouTube.

I saw "Das Lusitania Songspiel" just after the original cast of The Elephant Man opened on Broadway ("Mr Merrick, I've brought you a popsicle stick for that cathedral you're building"). One of the funniest things I've ever seen. How I loved Chris Duirang!

I thought it was a movie version of Sondheim's "Saturday Night."

Has any DR ever seen this?   [click to embiggen]

Yes! Annabelle, Thatch, and I watchged it about five years ago. Why?

It's fun, but Annabelle was more interested in starring in a musical version of That Darned Cat.

Saturday morning greetings!  We are relaxing at home before it’s time to head to a dinner party in Dayton.  On our way we’re picking up a couple of dessert selections from Central Pastry in Middletown.

TOD - Yes, I was a fan of SNL, right from the beginning.  I remember watching it on my little black & white TV in an apartment I occupied from 1975-1977.  My favorite moment was a winter episode (maybe right before Christmas) that was hosted by Candice Bergen.  The show closed with everyone skating at the Rockefeller Center rink.

So far, I’ve been able to identify that episode as Season 1, Episode 8.

So far, I’ve been able to identify that episode as Season 1, Episode 8.

Correction:  it was Season 2, Episode 10, broadcast on December 11, 1976 - my 26th birthday.  I just watched the opening and closing on Peacock.

When "Saturday Night Live" first aired... this is hard to believe now, but I didn't even have a TV, so I didn't witness the big start live.

I caught up with it on repeats and liked it okay, but I never watched it religiously. Later still, I caught more repeats (I believe some channel was showing it every night in the early '80s) and now I really liked it. That was still the original cast. Then, what with both moving around and being interested in various other things, I dropped the habit. From then on, I watched it only intermittently. There have been certain episodes with later casts, and certain kinds of sketches and impressions of people that I absolutely loved, but the habit was gone.

I have the box sets of the first five seasons on DVD, and just a couple of highlights ones from later on. I'm afraid I've hardly watched it at all in recent years.

Four minutes and 25 seconds to drain a pint of blood from me.

I stay reclined a while before sitting up carefully. Then hang out a while enjoying junk carbs.

Sounds good.

I learned why most of my donations go to California. Red Cross does not have the contract to provide blood to Phoenix. If I want my donation to stay local, I would need to donate to Vitalent.

Interesting.  I never heard of Vitalent.  If you need your donation to go to someone local you would then need to donate at Vitalent?

And now, already, I must go. Maybe I can log in for a bit this evening.

Tomorrow is our sitzprobe and big tech rehearsal. Pray for the baby. I can't even think about that right now. In the scheme of things, it's just another element of the current HELL. Cheers, everyone!

Sending loads of vibes.

Good morning.

Saturday has arrived, bright, shiny and quite chilly, but only in the 40s.

I am not sure what the day has in store for me, but I believe I will be taking a load of recyclables to the local center for such things at some point during the day.

On the "cataract front", my right eye has taken over as my "good" eye.  My vision is very good without glasses, but not for reading.  My left eye needs the glasses lens, but my right eye does not. I can close my left eye and read perfectly well, but both eyes don't blend for reading.  It will soon be different, I know, after my second surgery on Dec. 12th.

Vibes they will blend well after your second surgery!

TOD: SNL started when I was in college and didn't have a TV. But our dorm had a TV in the lounge and I would catch some episodes there, including the legendary Bass-O-Matic. The original cast was great. I haven't watched any live episodes since college, but I've seen some of the classic later sketches on YouTube like Will Ferrell and "More cowbell!"

Someone posted about it on FB and I figured it was the zany kind of thing that someone here at HHW might have seen.
