We had a short but sweet dinner with our friends. The food and company were good. We went to Beaches as they wanted to go one last time before it closes and that was fine with us. It was very busy, even going early on a week night.

I had chicken-fried quail with a pepper cream sauce. It was preceded by a lovely bibb lettuce salad.

Dessert was called Russian ice cream cake. It was alternating layers of chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream topped with chocolate ganache and chopped pecans. Totally decadent.

Has it become common to serve the man first. Three times tonight, I received my dish before the three women at the table. I didn’t say anything to the staff, but I did say it to my friends, who had noticed it too.
