I have chosen to go see the THE PAVILION starring Brian D'Arcy James during my New York trip. It is off-Broadway, but I had hoped to be able to see Brian in something while I am there, and this play just started.

Brian is the nephew of my favorite TV actor, Brian Kelly (of FLIPPER fame).

Haven't decided what night to  go, but likely will be Monday or Tuesday.

Am also considering seeing  A SOLDIERS STORY which stars Taye Diggs. It sounds quite good...has anyone heard anything on either play (I read one review of PAVILION which gave it a thumbs up).

Brian D'Arcy James was brilliant at the Alan Menken concert at Merkin Hall last night, as was Kerry Butler, BTW.  I think people are going to be delighted with the "new" LITTLE MERMAID numbers, which were debuted last night, and the two of them were fantastic performing those numbers, as was Michael McGrath.

Damn! I forgot about the Broadway Up Close series at Merkin Hall. I went to the Ahrens/Flaherty/McNally this spring and it was WONDERFUL. Sorry I missed Alan's.

MBarnum: Anything with Taye Diggs in it is worth seeing. I don't know how his acting is, but still... I saw him on the street the other day hailing a cab. I can't remember the last time someone was so stunningly beautiful that I stopped in my tracks, but he is a truly beautiful human being. Idina's a lucky girl...

How many  concerts go on every single night?  How many new/old musicals play the current festival (most of the shows I've seen listed have been around for six to ten years)?  How many "readings" of new musicals happen every day?  How many workshops of new musicals now perform for the public every day?  It's non-stop.  Is something maybe a little out of control?

I attempted to watch THE GHOST WHISPERER Friday. I was going to get TPunk's goat by telling her I like it more than MEDIUM, but I found it rather corny and unwatchable. But that's just me. I rarely like TV shows.

I saw the last few moments of KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL last night.  I didn't know that Xander was in it!  I may watch it now!

I also am disappointed that KIDS are being included in THE AMAZING RACE.  I will watch it, but I think a great deal of the dynamic will be lost when you have parents and kids.

I just found out that my friend, Daniel, will be making his Broadway debut in THE WOMAN IN WHITE. Good for him!!

Hmmm....have a Giselle McKenzie souvenir book from GYPSY and a Carroll Baker book from GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES which I like a lot.

An autographed Louis Nye program from CHARLEY'S AUNT (co-starring Noel Harrison) - Nye was hilarious!  And he was so funny and kind to all of us who met him afterwards!  I told him I thought Gordon Hathaway was the funniest guy on TV and he said: "Hi-ho, Steva-rino!"

Playbills....hmmm....  A CHORUS LINE (my first Broadway show ON Broadway) - and a few others.

GEORGE C SCOTT autographed ON BORROWED TIME - and the rest of the cast including Nathan Lane, too.

Like other DR's I like to look at my Playbills from time to time to remember the shows and the casts.  Broadway souvenir books from TITANIC, TOMMY, and PHANTOM....and the tour book from MAMMA MIA that DRJOSE purchased for me...all very nice!

FYI: There will be a mini-HHW gathering of NYCers on Thursday night. We're seeing "Mildred Pierce" at the Clearview Cinemas in Chelsea on 23rd Street (just across from the Krispy Kreme!) at 7pm.  Tickets are $6. I know last week's viewing of "All About Eve" was sort of short-notice, but I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to come out and see Ms. Crawford this week.

If any New Yorkers are fans of Jane Powell, she will be appearing in the flesh at the Museum of Television and Radio on Sept. 29th when they show her TV special from RUGGLES OF RED GAP. She will do a question and answer thingy afterwards which will be moderated by Rick McKay.

I wish I could be there to see it!  

As a matter of fact, in the next several weeks the museaum will be screening several vintage television musicals (most from the 50s and 60s). Some interesting titles http://www.mtr.org/

Amazing Race is the one "reality" show I like, and I want to smack the producers upside the head for messing with a good thing.  Why do they think they have to "improve" a show that's always been perfectly fine as is?  Grrrr.  That being said, I'll watch it tonight, but probably only the first hour until Boston Legal starts at 10.

Whatever one feels about LES MISERABLES, we have that show to thank for upgrading the quality of show souvenirs.  Up till then, the t-shirts and souvenir programs were crap.  LES MIS raised the bar, and while their stuff was pricey you at least felt you were getting something worthwhile for your bucks.  The Cosette sweatshirt I bought when the show first opened is still in excellent shape.
