The sun is already getting very low in the sky. Oh, it's HARD when we go off daylight savings time! Takes some getting used to.

I can't speak for AOL on the West Coast, but the problems with AOL on the East Coast, at least with my dial-up connection, are practically nonexistant. I might have trouble one day out of every two months.

I have been MORE than satisfied with the service they render.

I started my afternoon with CAROUSEL. I hadn't seen it in a long while. I haven't even listened to the music in a long time, so it was in many ways experiencing this anew. I was moved to tears on a couple of occasions, and I generally love it.

I could kill Fox, of course, for doing this DVD on the cheap with a flat letterbox transfer. I think not only does it need a good anamorphic transfer, but the color could do with some tweaking, too. But mainly, we need an enhanced transfer. The poor DVD player with its progressive scan switched on and the TV with its 3:2 pulldown elements were striving mightily to deal with all those plaids in pants and aprons and coats, but there was flashing or aliasing all over the place. And with an enhanced transfer would also come much more sharpness to the image.

CAROUSEL isn't highly regarded enough for them to remaster this disc like they've done with the upcoming new release of OKLAHOMA! but it's a shame since this is probably the only movie version of this masterpiece we'll ever get.

Then I watched the pilot episode of LOIS & CLARK, and it was most enjoyable. I had never seen it before, and those of you who tipped me off ahead of time about the scene with Clark and his mother over his costume were right: it was hilarious. Loved all those outfits (many of the other DC heroes) that he experimented with until he landed on just the right one.

Love Jimmy Olsen, too. What a cutie he is! Lane Smith is great as Perry White as well (though John Hamilton can never, ever be surpassed).

I'm doing another home theater installation on Tuesday, too, so I'll be away a bit during the day for that.

I lost an item on Ebay this morning when the bidding got just too out of sight. I'll just wait around until I can find a better price for said object. It wasn't one of a kind, so I don't mind waiting.

Headed down now to clean my bathroom. Then some more fun with Lois & Clark before network TV begins.

Actually, Matt H, CAROUSEL is scheduled for the second round of R&H remasters along with SOUTH PACIFIC and THE KING AND I early in 2006.  At least that's the word from the R&H newsletter. . .

T.O.D.

I am not really a fan of Halloween.  I guess I don't really have anything against ghosts, goblins, and witches; but I have never cared for trick or treating or for costume parties.  Everyone assumes that since I am an actor, I must love dressing up in costumes for parties, but just the opposite is true.  I don't consider acting on stage and playing dress-up to have anything in common.  Don't ask me why, maybe I was scared by a drag queen at an early age.

It is a holiday here tomorrow.  "Melbourne Cup Day".

For those of us no longer working and not interested in horse racing it's just another day  That's horse racing I guess.  I'm too old to gambol and not interested in gambling.

DR CILLALIS, How cute you’re in Alice costume!
I wish we had such a enjoyable Halloween custom party in Japan too. It’s looks so fun! If we have that party, I’d like to dress up in a costume of Bake-neko (a ghost cat which every night haunts at the bedside of her husband who poisoned her to death for his mistress).

I'm late!  I'm LATE!  Well, it sure feels like I am.  Does anyone else hate the time change as much as I do?

And while I'm in a gripe type mood.  I don't wanna go back to work tomorrow!    :'(  :(

Good Evening!

Back from dinner with DRs TPunk and Rodzinski.  Indian.  Alas, no one was wearing a kurta, but the hostess behind the counter was wearing a sari.

And now... Some TV...

DR HISAKA - MBARNUM sent me a movie ALL about a Ghost Cat, but it is not the one you wrote about.  Very good movie, though.

Today I watched a strange movie called THE GREAT GABBO...an old talkie from 1929 starring Erich Von Stroheim...I believe this movie comes highly recommended by DR Rodzinski.

DR CP - thanks for the update.  I am glad you finally got to see NbyN!  I just watched it again on TCM.  Hope we didn't oversell it to you, it's IMHO just like Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way.

Everyone at the top of his game - and doing it all for us, the audience.  And I don't think Eva Marie Saint was ever again as beautiful onscreen....previously she was a knockout in RAINTREE COUNTY, but no match for Elizabeth Taylor....but here she was coiffed and coutoured within an inch of her life, and it was very becoming.

Well, today's board meeting only lasted 5 hours. Better than last month's.

TOD: I liked halloween when it was a simple kids' holiday. We had the last 20 minutes of the schoolday for a party. Then we dressed up and trick-or-treated in the neighborhood for an hour or so. That was it. Now the whole thing is so overblown it is ridiculous.

Ginny, I taped CBS's "Ghost Whisperer" on Friday and it was there.  Do you want a copy?  Let me know. ;)

George, thanks for the offer, but I did actually get to see the commercial a couple of times this afternoon - once at the end of the skating program and again just surfing.  I, too, watched Ghost Whisperer Friday night, but only the last half, so must have missed it then.  Don't really care to see it often  :P, but now I'll probably see it every time I turn on the TV!
