Some days life really sucks. Last night, I opened the new issue of Gramophone to read the obituary of my friend John Wallace, one of the great classical trumpet players. We met at Abbey Road studios in June 2001, when John McGlinn was recording Babes in Toyland. The last time I saw John was maybe around 2010 or so, when he was in New York for a Scottish event, and I was his date for something, I cannot now remember what. I think by then he was running the Scottish Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in Edinburgh.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wallace_(trumpeter)Then, just now, I logged onto Facebook to see the obituary of my friend Paul Hollenbeck, father of my goddaughter Emily, and husband of my friend Pam, wgo died in 2018. Pam and I were grad assistants in the theater dept. while Paul was finishing his degree in architecture.https://www.inclusivefuneralcare.com/obituaries/paul-hollenbeck-2/?fbclid=IwY2xjawPskC5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeH6prwJ7Mra0gXUsSVH1JDnf3xRMflqIqKx2ChqZBIHX2Q7iWJnBikYiLuU0_aem_2Apivkvg82Bhj9AMmcNmKA#!/Obituary
I complained about Ann Pachett’s Run last night. Today there was a passage of pure, unmitigated joy that was totally brilliant. A young girl is given the chance to go running on a Harvard track, and she does so in a moment of exhilaration that made everything right in the world.
So sorry for the return of the hackers.....may they have a long lingering timely demise.
The only avatars I can see are JRand, Freddie, and Jane. Mine has disappeared. I looked in the profile part to re-add my picture, and there are no choices in the gallery. I know it will be fixed. We just need to be patient. I'm just glad this site is working.
