This is only the second time I have used this lab.  So far I am impressed.  I walked in at 7:52 and was headed to my car by 8:04.  Ok, that was pure luck.

Impressive is the speed at which the results were emailed to me.  They arrived between 10:00 & 11:30, and the doctor has already commented on them.

Already futzed and finessed and there was a LOT of that to do - I could just see how I was trying to get anything down with my cramped hands - it was pretty rank. I smoothed it out, I think, and it's better now.

The Encores! production of Love Life will be recorded!

That would be fantastic! Where did you hear about this? I did a quick web search and didn't see anything.

Mitchell sounded so good in the brief clip of Here I’ll Stay. And MichaelG, you loved it, as I recall.

Yes, it was wonderful, and the performances much better than on the current recording. The current recording is all right, but the Broadway cast is generally in a whole different league that the Leeds cast. Kate Baldwin in particular is way better as Susan.

The hobos were fantastic in both. I'll get to see the Leeds hobo, Justin Hopkins, in Chicago Opera Theater's production of Der Silbersee next month. He'll be playing Olim.

DR Michael G, in March or April 2001, the late conductor John McGlinn asked me to join a project he was supervisng for the Packard Humanities Institute. The project, which I thought would last longer than my lifespan was to record the music of Jerome Kern and Victor vHerbert. Believing this would by the job that I would last until I died, I accepted. I would be the Victor Herbert editor and my friend Russell Warner would do the same for the Kern scores. The project spent a lot of money: everyone flew to London first class, recording fees were high, and we stayed in a West End ffive-star hotel.  The first week of June 2001, I flew to London to be musical editor of a near-complete recording of Babes in Toyland, recorded ar Abbey Road Studio with the London Sinfonietta. On the first day of recording, at the first break, a handsome red-haired gentleman came up to me and asked, "This music is terrific. What is this piece?" It was the first trumpet, John Wallace. and that was the beginning of our friendship. I was in London until the beginning of July.

I returned to London in early September to record at Henry Wood Hall Victor Herbert's rather poor score for The Lady of the Slipper, I the second day of recoding was on the infamous 9/11. By the end of those sessions, McGlinn was asked to leave the project. As of today, the four Kern and two Herbert shows flot around as bootlegs; they have never been released commercially.

Thanks for sharing this story, DR elmore. The Packard Humanities Institute is just down the road from me. Their web site says "We hope to have these available soon" about the McGlinn recordings. It said the same thing 10 years ago, the earliest that the Wayback Machine captures that page. I wonder if the same wording has been there for 10+ years before that. I wonder what could be so difficult about releasing them? But Mr. Packard is an interesting person.

All of a sudden, I want a sub sandwich.  I have Subway gift cards and Meconi's coupons, but ne'er the twain shall meet. ;D
