I've done that midnight show thing twice: JURASSIC PARK and BATMAN AND ROBIN. Of course, with JP we were all juiced by that amazing feat of movie magic. With B&R, well, let's just say I liked it better than those I was with (though I'll admit much of it was very lame).
Ah, the fond memories. A friend and I went to the midnight opening of
Star Wars (the original) at Grauman's Chinese, back when it still was Grauman's. Standing in line for what seemed like forever, finally getting in, and then the previews of all the other films were shown.
And then they stopped, and in the dark the side curtains (aka "legs") could be heard moving back, and when the film began everyone realized that the screen was indeed wider and taller and then the spaceships started flying in from the top of the screen...
I think everyone in the theater gasped when that happened.
