How sad. Blue Bayou was written and sung by Mr Roy Orbison when those two ladies were in grade school.
(OK - High School - It was 1963 - They were both 17 that year. I wonder if they learned the truth)

Sad? No! Such a good song... it had to be revived, so to speak!

Wow, I've been singing the song wrong all these years.  Darn that cheap monaural speaker.  And my parents for making me listen to show tunes through that cheap monaural speaker.

There was a musical revue about Roy Orbison a few years back in London, England!

And for making me listen to the Brazzi-Gaynor soundtrack when my friend Marc had the Pinza-Martin cast album.

The paroles sont:

Dites-moi
Pourquoi
La vie est belle,
Dites-moi
Pourquoi
La vie est gaie,
Dites-moi
Pourquoi,
Chère Mad'moiselle,
Est-ce que
Parce que
Vous m'aimez?

I thought I'd recognized the word Mame in the last word of that song.  Ah, how all musical theater flows together.

Oh... I understand the trauma! :)

Real correct French would say:

Est-ce parce que vous m'aimez?

and not "est-ce (que) parce que vous m'aimez? which is a little "heavy" in style, but since it's a children ditty and... French Canadian!! :o ;D

How does Hammerstein French compare with Sheldon Harnick French in "Allons" in THE ROTHSCHILDS, I wonder.

"I Wonder" is NOT in the Rothschilds! It's in Disney's Sleeping Beauté! :D

Had three enjoyable video experiences tonight.

First up was THE LADY IN THE LAKE which was on the DVR and I had forgotten about. This is the Phillip Marlowe mystery with Robert Montgomery playing Marlowe and also directing the film. For about 85% of the running time, we see everything from a first person point of view and only occasionally glimpse him in mirrors or other glass. The other characters talk directly to the camera.

I wouldn't want to see many movies like this, but for a one-shot deal, it's pretty interesting, and the mystery is a typical Chandler jumble. Everything gets sorted out at the end satisfactorily.

I have to say that I've seen this movie two or three times in my life (not in a long time), and I thought I knew the identity of the murderer so I watched everything carefully thinking I knew who the guilty party was going to turn out to be. Turns out I had remembered incorrectly and had a wonderful time being surprised when the identity of the actual murderer was revealed.

I dubbed this onto a DVD to watch and enjoy again.

Funny, you said that because i listend to The Rothschilds again the other day, something I had not done in a LONG time!

ALLONS is pretty correct, as I remember!

Next, I watched last night's SMALLVILLE, a variation on IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE as Lex Luthor was given a glimpse of a life he might possibly have in the future if he'd give up his evil ambition and live an honest life.

Most interesting to see how different things in Smallville would be with a good Lex, and the show gave Michael Rosenbaum quite a rich expanse to play this week. He did very, very well.

And then I completed my evening's viewing with another MURDER SHE WROTE episode, this one with wonderful guest stars like Polly Bergen, Roddy McDowall, June Lockhart, and John Vernon.

The nice thing about not having made it to 900 on page 9 is that now I don't have to fulfill my pledge not to be obsessive-compulsive for the rest of the year.

You sure know this one!

(Mary Costa's the voice!)

I wonder, I wonder
I wonder why each
Little bird has someone
To sing to sweet things to
A gay little love melody?
I wonder, I wonder
If my heart keeps singing
Will my song go winging
To someone who'll find me
And bring back a love song to me?

While I mopped the kitchen floor today, I listened to THE ANDY WILLIAMS CHRISTMAS ALBUM, probably my favorite of all the CHristmas CDs I have.

That might be a fun topic one day = to name our all-time favorite Christmas song and all-time favorite Christmas album.

What prompted you to listen to THE ROTHSCHILDS?

I remember one of the critics from way back when saying that "Allons" was basic high-school French.  That critic happens to live in our building and I just saw him on the elevator, so I was free associating.  I've always wanted to ask him what high school he learned French in if "Allons" was high-school French.  But of course I lack the nerve (a WIZARD OF OZ reference).

While mopping the floor, did you "whistle while you work(ed)"?

Agree with you about Andy Williams, but I know 2 A. Williams' albums!
Dame Julie has some good Xmas albums too and I guess I'll place Johnny Mathis second to Andy!

AND, like DR Tomovoz mentioned the other day, the Carpenters' Xmas albums are just cheer delight!
