Good Evening!

What A Wonderful Opening Night!

-It just seemed that everything was in place, and everything went right.  Heck, I was even a little verklempt when the lights went down after the Act II Finale - and I will freely admit to being a bit "jaded" when it comes to "special evenings in the theatre".  But tonight was really special.  And fun.

When I walked into the pit tonight, my keyboard was covered with cards, chocolates, candies and various gifts from the cast, crew, etc.  My conductor gave me a great 1950's style cake pedestal.  Perfect gift!  And one of the men in the ensemble managed to track down a bunch of original Washington Senators' Baseball Cards, and gave one to each person in the company - I got Andre Marrerro.

But beyond the gifts, it was a great evening to be with friends, and to share with friends.  My friend, Justin - with whom I just recently reconnected - came in for the show tonight with his partner, Kevin.  -And it turned out that Justin knew a few people in the cast from his Florida State days.  There were also lots of other friends in the audience - lots of hugs at the post-show reception, lots of mini-reunions.  And, of course, the whole cast and crew of this show are also friends - well, more like family now.

Tomorrow, we're having "Gay Day".  ;)  A bunch of the cast and crew is getting together to catch the 3:00 showing of "Bareback Brokeback Mountain".  ;D  Hopefully, we'll all have enough time after the movie to recover emotionally before the evening show.

Thanks again for all the Vibes and Well Wishes.  It was nice knowing that the HHW Family was there in spirit tonight too.

BK - Yes, as others have stated, have some sort of Sports drink - Gatorade, Propel, even something like Vitamin Water.  You need hydration and a bit of energy (sugar) and electrolytes.  And, yes, bland food is the best course to follow right now.

Butter on the saltines.....not as bad as it sounds.

Sweet butter on saltines was a tasty treat for me when I was a youngen.

And in a sort of weird coincidence, it turns out that Justin has applied for the Assistant to the Artistic Director position that will be opening up soon.  So, lots of introductions were made tonight.  Lots.  :)

Me too.  I still remember being very pleasantly surprised the first time I tried butter on a saltine.  Of course, I believe I had seen my baby-sitter do it first, and thought it was sort of gross, but once I tried it myself... YUM!  -I actually like butter better on a saltine more than cheese.  -But my favorite combo is a saltine with both butter and apple butter on it.  Now that's tasty!

And since it was Opening Night, I took a little "break" from my diet.  I have to say there are some incredible bakers in this company.  One of the assistant stage managers made the most amazing lemon cake - I had a few small slices throughout the evening.  And the male swing made a couple of trays of Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Brownies.  Truly decadent.  I had at least two.  -And I wrapped up a few for Justin and Kevin to take home too.

The reception food was sort of bust.  Well, at least not the usual chicken satays, beef tenderloin, roasted vegetables, etc...  Since we're doing Damn Yankee, we had hot dogs, nachos, Cracker Jacks, popcorn, etc.  Fun food, but a bunch of were looking forward to the usual chicken skewers with spicy peanut sauce.  ;)

...And I guess I'll work out a little harder tomorrow during my workout.  However, I'm also toying with going for a run since it's supposed to be dry - it's still raining right now - and the temps will be in the upper 40s.  I have a great set of thermal running clothes I haven't used in a while.  We shall see.

Oops... I meant Connie Marrerro.  Andre Marrerro was/is an actor I was in school with.  ;)

...And for those of you interested in seeing Who's Who in Damn Yankees, here's a link to the website which now includes the bios of the cast and crew.

*And I believe our very own BK gets a mention in someone's bio.  ;)

What? What do I read in today's International Herald Tribune?
Riots in Sydney?

"Riots revive notion of Australians as racist"?!?

Looks like headlines for events that happened recently in France!

Good grief!

Had a few Saltines - not too tasty, but not disturbing me, so I might have a couple more.

Love my mention, Jose.

You're most welcome.  And I have to say that a couple of cast members and some audience members were happy to see your name too.

Well, I believe I'm coming off my sugar high... finally.  -Those Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies were soooo good!  -And I guess I'll portion out the Whitman's and Godiva over the next couple of days... weeks.  ;)

In any case...

Goodnight.

My favorite combo on a cracker was butter and peanut butter.  I'd spread on the butter then the peanut butter and mix them together.  Yummers!

That is pretty cool!

BK, the DVDs are in the mail!!  You'll get them soon, I promise.  Soon! (a Stephen Sondheim reference...appropriately!)
