THE FIRST PREVIEW
« on: January 10, 2006, 12:27:17 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you know all about the first preview, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're trying to figure out when they all want to see Deceit.

I've never been on a toboggan.  Somehow, I feel deprived. ;)

DR Jose--

The front page of Saturday's L.A. Times Calendar section contained photos of Bryan Harvey and his family, along with the story of their tragic murders. He was very well known in L.A., famous for his band, House of Freaks.

Sounded like a wonderful family, wonderful person. Absolutely horrifying news.

Speaking of comfort food, after our first tourist foray in Dublin County (the picture of Malahide Castle from yesterday) we came back into Dublin city and went to the Rio Cafe for coffee and wonderfully comforting desserts. There are two pieces of carrot cake and a slice of red velvet cake. I'm having coffee and Anthony (who is taking the picture) and Jayne are drinking hot chocolate. We are with a miniaturist friend of Anthony's. She lives in Belfast and drove down to Dublin for the day to be tourists with us.

Good morning, all!  I'm not in fine fettle yet, but I do feel better.

Dear Friend BK, I'm thrilled that your first preview went so well.  I hope the play continues to blossom and grow this week.

DRBen, more photos!

More pictures? If you insist. Here is a picture of our most excellent tour guide at St. Michan's church. It's an old church founded in 1095. Most of the original church is gone but there are two crypts which are part of the tour. Peter, our tour guide is about to take us down into the crypts. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed down there but we did see mummified remains, including the corpse of what is believed to be a crusader from over 800 years ago. They think he is a crusader because he was buried with his legs crossed, an indication of holiness. He is also missing his feet because he was so tall he couldn't fit into the casket and in those days if you didn't fit you got chopped up until you did. The crusader's hands are still intact, though and part of the tour includes (if you choose to do so) touching the crusader's hand for good luck. Here are links with information about St. Michan's.

Saint Michan's 2

And finally a picture of Peter, our tour guide.

Here is a small picture of the interior of one of the crypts. The crusader is up at the top of the photo. It's from a post card image since we couldn't take pictures inside.

Yes, it was in kind of color, more sepia. I found a better picture. It's a little bigger and it shows all the caskets, not just 3 so I changed it.

BK, I doubt you had a senior moment with  Linda Purl; I suspect you were merely obsessing and worried about your impending preview that night. Glad it went well and everything is falling into place.  Having been at the reading, I'm amazed that you could pull together such a demanding and complex piece together in such a short rehearsal time.

Now...when do we get the Tammy Minoff bikini photos? PLEASE!

Comfort food:  pudding...vanilla.  Kettle chips.  A hot dog with mustard and relish.

Comfort food: Pickled Jalapenos!

No, really!  At the Hard Rock on Saturday, we ordered a platter of nachos, and I hogged all the pickled Jalapenos for myself.  (No one complained, but I got a couple of funny looks from Daddy like "You really eat those things, Dude?"  Yep, I really do!   ;D)

And corn tortillas.  For some reason, the stores here in Delaware only carry flour tortillas, which aren't the same thing.  You can't make a decent tortilla chip out of a flour tortilla.

Ahh, the memories of home.  I love it here, but some of my favorite flavors just have to be here with me, too.

Re: toboggan.

I've a hunch this word is gramatically incorrect.  Looking things up in the dictionary, I found the verb bog, meaning...
Quote
To interfere with the progress of. Also used with "down":
encumber, hinder, hold back, impede, obstruct.
Thus, you can have the phrase "to bog," meaning to slow progress, and you can have "bogging" (the more proper spelling), meaning "slowing progress", but you cannot have "to bogging," which would mean "to slowing progress," which just doesn't make sense.
