I have the ladies' short programs recorded last night to watch today and I'd also like to see another MURDER SHE WROTE or two.

Tonight, I'm planning on watching SUMMER MAGIC on DVD. Haven't seen it since its original release in the 1960s, and I'm really looking forward to it. Thrilled it's a widescreen, enhanced transfer.

I read this morning what the four titles will be in FOx's upcoming Betty Grable Collection:

MY BLUE HEAVEN, THE DOLLY SISTERS, MOON OVER MIAMI, and DOWN ARGENTINE WAY.

These are certainly far more entertaining films than PIN-UP GIRL released earlier.

Also, her 1941 melodrama I WAKE UP SCREAMING is going to be released as part of Fox's film noir series, too.

Good morning all!

I was so sorry to read about the DVD mishap, BK!  Many vibes for a complete fix and that it will never happen again!  I know how disapointed you must have been.

DR Jose, I hope everything goes well for you tonight.  Enjoy every moment of it and don't stress--Remember that no matter what happens, we're still here for you!

BIG PERFORMANCE VIBES to both BK and DR Jose!!!!!!!

I think I have already told you all the story about how I was "blooded" during my first play so I won't repeat it.   :)

I remember one performance of the WEST SIDE STORY I was in where the actor playing Gladhand was to put the two gangs in circles during "The Dance at the Gym" and he just forgot what he was supposed to say. "Let's see. You need to form two circles. Oh, you've formed two circles already. Well, let's see. . . . "

We were all dying for him, and finally the actor playing Action just took it upon himself to move things along by saying what needed to be said to get the orchestra to start that prancing music.

I’m still very tired and feeling very lazy on this rainy day.  I need to get moving and clear my brain that keeps begging me to go back to sleep.

I’ve enjoyed reading Bruce and Jose’s adventures and am confident you will both do well tonight.

Jose “don’t freak out”.  I love it.  Brad seems like a nice guy.

Okay, so about last night's "run-through..."

OY!!!

The lingua franca is Bulgarian. I speak some Russian, so I get the gist. The 'director' was stuck on the freeway long past "go-time". He stopped to clean up every entrance, discussing with the cast at great length the reason we all must keep our energy UP and smile and look happy.

The techie in the booth with me had no time to program the few simple light cues. The projection screen does not work, so my executive decision was - scrap it, and project the slides on the back wall - not a smooth surface... but with no set, it will at least vary the lighting... which, you will remember is nil.

Lighting has to be: Lights bump up full stage. Lights fade-up to full stage. Lights fade down to black. Blackout. We got no gels. We got no spots. AND the tech from last night will NOT be there today.

AND said director finally got through ACT I - mind you, no single dance or set of songs or music EVER was played through complete - at 8:40. At which time, he asked that everyone go to the dressing rooms to get ready for a full dress fun-through of ACT I.

Then the tech told him we only had the theater until 9. No, he said - we have it until 11 - I have it right here in the contract. He pulls out said contract, and finds that we have the theater until 9.

EVERYONE ONSTAGE!!! Okay, it looks pretty good. Go home and rest. NOW, since we only have 5 minutes to vacate the place. Then tomorrow at 3, we tech ACT II, and at 4:15 (I swear this is what he said) we'll do a full dress tech of the whole show.

Okay.

Meanwhile, at some point I have to have time to program ANY light cues... should be interesting!

There will be ONE tech in the booth with me - I'll be calling the show, running the slide projector, and cueing the manually-operated sound cues. At one point, there will be a blackout AND a sound cue, simultaneously - so in all my free time today, I have to ask the tech to show me how to run the light board - (I would do the sound cue - but the sound equipment is way at the back of the booth, with NO view of the stage... hahahahahahaaaaa!!!!

But I'm here at the cabin, and although rain was predicted for every day I'm here, the two mornings I've spent so far have been sunny and beautiful. Fed the blue jays both mornings. I went out on the deck with my metric ton o' peanuts, and whistled - Here they came!!!! Oh, it's so great!!! I do love it so!

Excellent vibes and xylophones to dear reader Jose for this evening.

In Honor of Jose's Broadway Premiere Tonight
Quote
Another Op'nin', Another Show
PAUL & ENSEMBLE:

Another op'nin', another show
In Philly, Boston or Baltimo',
A chance for stage folks to say hello,
Another op'nin' of another show.
Another job that you hope, at last,
Will make your future forget your past,
Another pain where the ulcers grow,
Another op'nin' of another show.
Four weeks, you rehearse and rehearse,
Three weeks and it couldn't be worse,
One week, will it ever be right?
Then out o' the hat, it's that big first night!
The overture is about to start,
You cross your fingers and hold your heart,
It's curtain time and away we go!
Another op'nin',
Just another op'nin' of another show.
Another op'nin', another show
In Philly, Boston or Baltimo',
A chance for stage folks to say hello,
Another op'nin' of another show.
Another job that you hope, at last,
Will make your future forget your past,

I've been "divarobbie" for like ten years or so.  It started as a theatre-fan thing where I just loved diva belters (Betty Buckley, Lillias White, etc).  At the time, I had a website called Diva Dish.  It all just fit.  Now, it stuck, and because so many of my friends and associates are the self-same divas, it stays.

I do remember you, and listen to Time & Again often!  I'm seeing Laura this week, I'll pass along hellos if you wish.

Quick lunch break for me - the library is busy, busy, busy today!

DR Jose - what I said in my email...

I've been over to Broadway.com to see the video interview with the conductor.  It's very informative and contains some nice glimpses of DR Jose, especially during the pan of the orchestra toward the end of the clip.  What I heard of the music, I liked.

Another interesting Lestat-related tidbit:  Last week, when working at the used book sale, I looked for Anne Rice novels and we appeared to have none.  Guess her fans don't want to give away their copies of her books.
