We once saw the Houston Ballet do SWAN LAKE and the main ballerina started across the stage and tripped and fell.  Later in the scene, a gallant gentleman in the company started across the stage, stopped at the exact spot, bent down and picked up something off the floor and put it in his tunic....  as if to say...."you see....it wasn't HER fault!"

The mail just came a little while ago.

I now own just everything I know of that is B5 related on DVD. Just got Crusade the complete series and The Legend of the Rangers.  Yay!

I'm so lazy, I haven't even gotten dressed but the room is a bit cold and my robe is so nice and warm.

What a great afternoon!  I had a lovely sparkling conversation with DR Jose, and the postman just delivered Cookies!  Tons of cookies from DRvxmom!  This is so exciting.  

I also got the second volume of the gigantic Berlioz biography by David Cairns, but I can't begin it until the first volume shows up.  Thank God that Lincoln assassination is taking forever.

Good Afternoon!

I'm up.  I'm up.

-I actually found myself waking up a couple of hours ago feeling pretty rested, but when I looked at the clock it was only 9:30... Hmm... Since I did not get to bed until around 5:30...  Hmm...  So, I pulled the covers back over my head and slept until Noon.

When I got up that time, I heard some voices in the living room.  It turned out to be the family of one of my roommates.  She's currently in the ensemble of the Musicals Tonight! presentation of Mademoiselle Modiste, and her parents and aunt had come on from Pennsylvania to see their darling daughter in the show today.

And they brought food!  And lots of it!  Bagels, croissants, homemade egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad (with grapes and walnuts), ham salad(!), cantaloupe, pineapple, biscotti, sugar cookies... Oh, and Birthday Cake to celebrate Megan and her father's birthdays.  -Oh, the cake: chocolate with vanilla icing.

Needless to say, it was nice to wake up and not have to cook up anything.  ;)

And it was also very nice meeting Megan's family.  Truly sweet and genuine people.

And now I've been doing what I usually do on a opening night... Cleaning.  I've always found it nice to do something that takes some effort, but doesn't really require any brain strain.  So, while I've been cleaning my room, I've also been cleaning out my mind.

As for stage mishaps...

I was watching a very good production of Grease that was being presented by one of the community theatre groups in the DC area - which is a very competitive market, so a lot of groups have some pretty sizable budgets for their productions.  Well...

I can't remember the exact scene it was, but a brick wall flat had been rolled on from the wings...  The guy playing Danny put out his left hand to lean on the wall... And then he and the wall proceeded to lean together... Apparently, no one set the supports for the wall after it was set in place.  Oops!  No one was hurt, and everyone on stage and in the theatre got a good laugh out of the situation.

OH!...

During the pre-Broadway run for Les Miserables at the Kennedy Center, the turntable was known for breaking down.  However, it also had a tendency to work "too well" at times.  It worked so well one night that it started spinning fast enough to cause some of the set pieces and actors to fly off of it.

*And that's when they started putting nets over the pit area.  Sometimes those empty chairs and empty tables would land on top of the woodwind section.  Sometimes some actors too.

*They're all coming back to me now....

During a performance of Mamma Mia!, the actress playing Rosie somehow lost her footing and fell off the stage and onto the netting above the orchestra pit.  Face down.  And she tried and tried to get up, but she was laughing so hard she couldn't keep herself still enough before falling back into the net again.  Needless to say, everyone on stage just started turning upstage...

She of the Evil Eye is gone, and now I can relax and watch a DVD or three - I've run my lines a couple of times, and don't want to anymore until late this afternoon.  Our stage manager is buying the new DVD player and when he's on his way to the theater, I'll go on over there to make sure it's all working correctly.

I have just found the most maaahvelous web-site.  It purports to have "librettos" of dozens of shows.  Actually, some are just lyrics, others libretti.  

But where is it?  In Russia, of course.  Just like that great First Nudie Musical site.

You can get to the main page here.

The site is primarily in Russian, but the libretti are in English, as well as a few other languages.

After JUDY we now get JOSE AT THE PALACE!

That bloody Broadway.com clip takes FOREVER to download and then I get frame by frame pics of Mr Brad Haak.... which can be hillarious; I think he has shades of M. Kudisch! He talks as much with his mouth as with his whole head!

The "problem" is that Jose does not play flute, drums or guitar... because we'd get to see him SO MUCH MORE!
