Almost four in the afternoon and STILL no DR Jose?   Should we start to get worried?

Denna Durbin was far more popular as a teenaged girl than as an adult, but I much prefer her adult films. The only one of the ones she made in the 1930s that I really like is FIRST LOVE. All of my other favorites were her later pictures.

MattH - Read the notes - there's no reason to hold on to your old discs - these transfers, especially SP, are much, much better.  SP is spectacular and everything that Oklahoma should have been.

I did read the notes, bk. I ALWAYS read them, but I may have misread or misinterpreted what you wrote. I thought you said these three musicals (KING, SP, CAROUSEL) were Region 2 releases, not necessarily the ones we'll get in the fall. This is what I meant by holding on to my old copies. As much as I detest nonanamorphic transfers, thank god I have the old OKLAHOMA DVD since the new one botched the Todd-AO version horrifically. This is why I asked in my post if the Region 2 release of OKLAHOMA was anamorphic and if it was any better than the artocity we got when OKLAHOMA was remastered for region 1 in an anamorphic transfer.

This was the point I was making. If Fox bungles the Region 1 releases of these three musicals, I'll want to have the old ones to fall back on. They're nonanamorphic but they look one thousand times better than the anamorphic OKLAHOMA Fox issued.

I spent the afternoon watching TV on DVD. First up was two episodes of MURDER SHE WROTE which helped me finish up with the second of three discs in the box.

In the second episode I watched, it was a 90 minute episode which functioned as the pilot for Jerry Orbach's spinoff from MURDER SHE WROTE which was called THE LAW AND HARRY McGRAW. It only ran one season.

But the pilot episode had lots of guest stars: Ernest Borgnine, Bradford Dillman, LeVar Burton, John Amos, and Adam West to name the ones that instantly come to mind. Entertaining, but like the MURDER SHE WROTE made-for-TV feature films, 90 minutes to two hours is too long to stretch these fun but slight mysteries.

Next I watched two episodes of ANGEL from the second disc in its Season 3 boxed set. One episode was better than the other, but I always am entertained by the mix of frights and fun in these shows. Lots of tongue in cheek humor and also black comedy, too.

To wrap up the afternoon, I flipped over to ESPN to see a rebroadcast of the national figure skating championships. I watched them this year but didn't record them, so it was fun seeing our top ladies skating at this stage of the competitive season before they got exhausted by all the pressure and publicity of the Olympics.

The transfers on these new region two R&H musicals, are the same that will be used for region 1 - they were created for region 1 - but for whatever reason, Fox released them in the UK first.  I'm watching The King and I now, and it, too, is spectacular, apparently restored directly from the Cinemascope 55 negative.

For that matter, where in tarnation is everyone else?  We're so close to having this month break a few records, let's not all get complacent, even on a Sunday.

INHD, one of the high definition movie channels my cable service provides, showed a high definition version of THE KING & I a month or two ago, and it looked superb. However, for some ungodly reason, the powers that be decided to reframe the image to eliminate the letterbox bars. I didn't notice any panning and scanning; I suspect they just put the telecine lens over the center of the image and did the transfer. How stupid is that!

They did that for THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS, too. Looked astonishly beautiful but it was NOT the entire image.

Speaking of sports, I see in the sports headlines that another underdog college basketball team has knocked off a #1 seed. My goodness, DR Rodzinski must be having the time of his life!

I'm heading downstairs now to do the usual Sunday chore: the bathrooms.

Then, it's on to more TV/DVDs.

I've spent the last couple of hours filling out some very boring insurance forms. And my neighbor just knocked on the door and delivered my New Yorker which the mailman left at his house by mistake... And the dining room table is groaning with half-read Sunday papers. And the sun is shining... The temptation to be lazy is VERY tempting. But I must be strong and write.
Before I go... Was it yesterday that the TOD was stage mishaps? There was a glorious one I often heard about when I was still acting in Canada (that would have been just after the Ice Age). Happened in Stratford (Ont.). Because of a missing prop or some mistimed stage business, Hamlet (Chris Plummer?) simply couldn't stab Polonius. ...So he yelled at him and the poor old chap died of a heart attack.

I almost never remember dreams for very long.  I can wake up in the middle of one, but in just a few moments, I have no idea what it was about.

I can remember a couple of fragments of dreams that I had in high school.  In one, I was underwater and couldn't breathe, but I told myself to breathe, that it's only a dream!  And slowly, in my dream, I started breathing because I knew that it was a dream, even though I was under water.  In the only other fragment, I'm naked and talking to my mother!  I know that she doesn't know that I'm naked but I get behind a counter to hide a little.  Those are really the only dreams that I can remember. :)

Nine out of every ten men who have pornographic dreams, claim that they don't rememeber their dreams.

Hi all,
Well I finished painting the home office today. I absolutely love it. My plans were office first, paint later, but it's easier to stay up late working on the computer than making a mess I have to clean up

I just got a call that some heavyset woman was looking in the windows of  the house I have for sale and fell through the window well cover. Oh great, I can see the lawsuit coming.  Guess I better go check up on it...

Well, I'm back!  It's been a long day out and about:  this morning I was off to the recording office, and a good time it was.  Then I had a rehearsal with the Men's Chorus from 3 to 6, and I'm tired.  I did get a phone message from DR Jose while I was out.  I believe he and a friend were going to Artie's.

I'm now having some shrimp with broccoli and the yummilicious Silk Road Palace on Amsterdam Avenue.  The shrimp and pork dumplings were also quite wunderbar.

My goodness, what a slow news day here at haineshisway.com.  Just finished teaching one of the songs in the new musical to the gal who'll be singing it.  I wanted her to have a lot of time with it.
