THE DAY OF THE Q&A

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what a weird day was yesterday. A rough night, up and down, but finally getting around eight hours of sleep and not arising until almost three. That put a bit of a monkey wrench and a zebra screwdriver into the day. I had to answer e-mails, of course, and then I began futzing and finessing – lots of little things to fix, adding a few things. I didn’t get very far because I was super hungry. I ordered my chopped Eyetalian salad from California Pizza Kitchen and that arrived and was excellent, though not as big as usual. Then I went back to futzing and finessing, which for whatever reason, was taking a very long time. At some point, I got a little ice cream treat from Coldstone Creamery – it was just the right amount and was very tasty. Then I took a little break and sat on my couch like so much fish. Then it was back to futzing and finessing, which I finally finished, thank goodness. Because of the additions, that put me over 100 pages – I’d added four. Then I began writing new pages and I wrote five more. I’d still like to do three or four more before going to bed. We’ll see if that happens. That was pretty much it for the partial day and full evening. Before I move on, may I just say that the song “I Love You, Porgy” from Porgy and Bess is one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, which is why it’s a favorite of jazz musicians. I was just playing it on the piano – so beautiful. It’s especially glorious in the opera itself.

Today is the day, dear readers, make no mistake about that. I’ll be up by eleven or so at the latest, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll pray for a modern major miracle or nine, I’ll futz and finesse and then send Muse Margaret the first batch of pages, I’ll write some new pages, and then I’ll just relax until it’s time for our Zoom Q&A. I sent out the invite to quite a few people I know. And does it surprise anyone that several got back to me who just happen to have things going on exactly at five – one such person has a Zoom Q&A at five. It certainly didn’t surprise me. Anyway at 5:00 PST/8:00 EST we do the Q&A and I do hope lots of you dear readers and lurkers will be in attendance. We’ll probably go an hour but can go a bit longer if things are lively and fun, filled with merriment and mirth and laughter and legs. I’ll have to pull out Ye Olde Ringe Lighte but there’s no real helping me right now. My hair needs cutting desperately – it’s been four months, and it is very unkempt and unseemly and that is two uns too many. After the Q&A I’ll go out and get something to eat – either in a restaurant or to bring home. I’ll probably write more pages and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Here is the direct link to the Zoom thing. All you need to do is click on it and you’ll be taken to Zoomland – I’ve already set the settings so video and audio are on for the visitors, but if not, once you’re in the room, at the bottom left you’ll see audio and video icons and if there’s a line through either then just click on the icon and you’ll be fine.

Bruce Kimmel is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

I’m very much looking forward to it. Invite friends if you like.

Tomorrow will be more writing, Wednesday I have a lunch meeting, then the rest of the week and weekend are writing and more writing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do whatever needs doing, pray for a modern major miracle or nine, futz and finesse, send Muse Margaret the first batch of pages, then I’ll relax until it’s time for the Q&A, afterwards I’ll get something to eat, I’ll write more pages and then I’ll watch listen and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Gershwin melodies? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, looking forward to our Q&A.
