MINUET IN NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, whilst I begin writing these here notes to the strains of a Mozart clarinet concerto, from a lovely disc of Mozart wind concertos featuring soloists and the Philadelphia Orchestra and Mr. Ormandy. It makes me want to put on a powdered wig, white makeup, a penciled-on beauty mark and do a minuet for one. If only I had a powdered wig, white makeup, and a penciled-on beauty mark I damn well would do a damn minuet for one and I’d do it for exactly on minute, which is the perfect amount of time to do a minuet, since minuet slightly rearranged is minute. I wish I could tell you that I watched a motion picture but alas, I did not. I do have a couple of things marked to watch, like the new Exorcist movie and a couple of others that I can’t remember. I did watch a few irritating videos on the Tube of You and I did listen to some nice music, including a beautiful performance of Jacques Ibert’s Escales. And yesterday wasn’t a full day, since I did not arise until noon o’clock after nine hours of good sleep with some more completely outré dreams. Once up, I answered some e-mails then had a long telephonic conversation, basically just information-gathering. Once that was done, I had two more telephonic conversations, made one decision, then moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up some mail, after which I stopped at the nearby Taco Bell and got some items for eating, then I came home and ate said items. All within my accepted calorie count. I did a few things on the computer then the computer did a few things on me, then I began loading the contents of a small box set that I forgot I had and had never even opened, so that should be fun. I think that was about it – boring, I know, but the day and evening moved right along. Now playing is the first symphony of Richard Yardumian – it’s very movie music-like and very enjoyable and the stereo sound is astounding. And his violin concerto is even better.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll try to do some writing, I’ll decide on food, I’ll see if there’s been any progress getting the damn hardcover here so I can order books and get them shipped, I’ll try to set some dates for three Kritzerland shows, I may do a brief Gelson’s run depending on the food decision, and then I’ll definitely watch a motion picture or two and I’ll continue listening to the remainder of the Ormandy box – only seven albums to go. What an enjoyable month it’s been listening to these treasured recordings.

Tomorrow, I may have a late lunch thing with Robert Yacko so we can catch up on stuff, then Friday night I’m being taken for a nice dinner with Partridge Family fans, so that should be fun, and they were very good about doing it near here, so I don’t have to drive far. Not sure what’s happening on the weekend yet, but I’ll try to reduce the stress level and actually enjoy whatever it turns out to be. Monday, I should be getting the adjusted glasses and hopefully they’ll be fine and that will be done.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write, decide on food and do a Gelson’s run depending on the decision, check up on the hardcover’s progress, hopefully set some dates for three Kritzerland shows, watch a motion picture or two, continue listening to the rest of the Ormandy box, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall do a minuet in notes.
