THE HORRIFYING REALIZATION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am coming to the horrifying realization that the next Kritzerland show is two weeks from yesterday. Rehearsals begin a week from today. How did that happen? We have our cast now, but probably will add one or two more along the way. We must get the flyer done today so they can put tickets on sale. I’ve sent the blurb and cast information to the club so hopefully they can have it up by tonight so I can do the announcement. That was basically the entire day. I was up at nine after only six hours of sleep, I did my banking at ten – first bank, in and out in two minutes. Second bank, in and out in two minutes. Then I came home and got everything together and sent all the Benjamin Kritzer stuff to the designer, so that was done. Then I finished choosing the songs for the Kritzerland show. I added one great cast member and the two kids, and then late in the evening added another cast member. I need one more kind of name to do our final song – not sure who that will be yet. Then I had Don Cuco brought in – taco and enchilada – very good, as always. I didn’t eat much of the rice and beans, so it was about six hundred calories all in. Then I had to write a show blurb and get all that to Doug and the club. After that, I took a well needed break and watched the original Japanese version of Gojira aka Godzilla. It’s really a great and very somber film and it’s oh so clear what it’s really about. The special effects are really excellent for their time, the photography is superb, and all the actors do a fine job, including the big guy himself. Akira Ifukube’s score is a major asset. Then I watched just a bit of the American version, Godzilla, King of the Monsters. The way in which Raymond Burr is worked in is done very well and is pretty clever and also clever is the way they get rid of everything the original is really about. Anyway, that was a fun diversion. Then it was nose to the grindstone again, which isn’t that good for the nose, really, but it must be done. Oh, and since I hadn’t had enough calories for the day, I got a small Caesar salad from a place in NoHo I’d never tried. It really hit the spot and was very good, I must say and have said rather plainly. That was basically the day and evening – several telephonic conversations, and I actually did a short walk just to get out of the house and get some exercise.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll make sure our blurb and ticketing page goes up today, and I’ll take a stab at a show order and I’m still looking for someone special to do the final song, preferably at least a semi-name. I’ll eat something fun, I’ll check with the mail place to see if there’s anything there for me, then I’ll start writing the commentary and we’ll make a rehearsal schedule. I have to get a few people music, too. Then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same and a work session for the show, some meetings and meals, and doing whatever needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, make sure our blurb and ticketing page go up today, take a stab at a show order, as soon as tickets are live, I’ll announce the show everywhere, I’ll eat, see if there’s mail to gather up, start writing commentary, get people music, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: When did you see your first Godzilla movie, what was it, and have you ever seen the original Japanese version of the first movie? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall probably dream of the horrifying realization that our show is less than two weeks from now.
