THE VERY WELL-ATTENDED SHOW WEEKEND

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we are now officially going into the last three weeks of our run. We had very healthy houses all weekend, which is what you want by week three. We also had three wonderful audiences. Sunday, which is usually the most vocal, wasn’t as vocal but we did get the surefire laughs and they seemed to be really enjoying it, and if the reaction to the end of the show and curtain call is anything to go by, I think most were. The show yesterday was certainly tight and ran about two minutes less than usual. I had several friends there – the Wechters, David’s mom Cissy and her husband, and two of their friends. They really had a good time and were impressed with the production itself and loved our two leads. Allen Hollis, a good friend of our Indiegogo campaigns, came from New Orleans to see the show and loved it, and one of our favorite Kritzerland young people, Ava Madison Gray and her folks sat with me – I think in ten years Ava would make a wonderful Alice Van Guilder. They were laughing throughout. Our choreographer was there, Cheryl Baxter, and she was very happy with everything, and she’s always very gracious about the numbers I staged. Our own Rob Stevens was there – he’s retired from reviewing – couldn’t tell whether it was his cuppa or not, but since he said nothing, perhaps not, and that’s fine. I know I’m forgetting others. Prior to the matinee, I got about five hours of sleep, shaved and showered, and moseyed on over to the theater. Our trumpet player was the lady sub and we really like her a lot. Sydney DeMaria had to wear her character shoes, which are beige and didn’t look in period, but her show shoes have to go to the repair shop and that couldn’t happen until today. She’ll have them back for next weekend’s show. After the show, a few of us went to nearby Mucho Mas. It’s no Casa Vega or Don Cuco but it was fine – I had my usual beef taco and cheese enchilada, plus rice and beans, although I don’t really eat much of either. After that, I came home, caught up on e-mails, had a long telephonic conversation with one of the dancers from The First Nudie Musical, who had a really successful dancing career all through the 1970s and 1980s and she’s now writing a memoir about those years and wanted some tips, which I happily offered her for whatever they’re worth. Around eight-thirty, I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched a couple of irritating YouTube videos during which I instantly fell asleep. When I finally opened my eyes I was about forty-five minutes into The Ten Commandments of all things. And then it was late and I finally started to write these here notes.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I have two items to pick up from the dry cleaners, at some point in the next couple of days I have to put gas in the motor car, and boy could we use a modern major miracle right about now, I’ll eat something light and hopefully tasty, I’ll catch up on many things, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, praying for modern major miracles, a couple of meals to be had, booking the May and June Kritzerland shows, and doing whatever needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, pick up dry cleaning, have faith in a modern major miracle, eat, catch up on stuff, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite kinds of juices? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had three well-attended shows.
