SOMETHING IS BUSTING OUT ALL OVER, AND I DO BELIEVE IT’S JUNE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have breaking bombshell news so hold on to your hats because something is busting out all over and I do believe it’s June. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, June is busting out all over and it is my fervent hope and prayer that June will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. I had a late-night telephonic conversation that just ended at one monute to midnight so I must write these here notes in a hurry, mustn’t I. But wait just a darned minute here – what the HELL is “monute”? I put an o where there should an i and yet I did not put an o in midnight. That might have made the faux pas less faux and a lot less pas. I like “ended at one minute to modnight” much better, given that I’m a mod and a rocker. What the HELL am I talking about. It is now after modnight so I’ll let it all hang out, mod-wise and rocker-wise. These here notes will be fab and gear, too. I’ll put on my Carnaby cap, and my Nehru jacket and I’ll have bangers and mash whilst watching an episode of MASH. Anyway, I did finish watching When a Stranger Calls, and I thought what I always think – a brilliant first twenty-three minutes, followed by a different kind of movie for a while, the Charles Durning section, which goes on a bit too long and isn’t done nearly as well, although Durning is wonderful, as are Rachel Roberts and Colleen Dewhurst. But then we get the finale, and all is well, and it works like gangbusters. Of course, When a Stranger Calls was based on a short film by Stranger’s writer/director, Fred Walton called The Sitter, which is basically the first twenty-three minutes of When a Stranger Calls. Turning into a full-length film, they came up with the “Seven Years Later” idea of the villain having escaped from a mental institution and Durning trying to find him. The film was remade in 2006 and the brainiacs behind it thought it was somehow a fine idea to stretch the first twenty-three minutes into eighty-three minutes. I haven’t seen it, but from what I’ve read it has to be dreadful. Anyway, I do love the first third and last ten minutes and that’s enough for me. If you’ve never seen it, it’s on YouTube for free, maybe even on Prime for free. If you’re like me and thought this was a slasher fest, there is no violence like that anywhere. It’s pure suspense. I also watched a few other YouTube videos, nothing irritating, just fun short stuff.

Prior to that, I got ten hours of excellent sleep with some lovely dreams, I got up, I answered e-mails, I ordered a tri-salad from Art’s Deli using a 50% off coupon, and then moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up two important envelopes and one highly hilarious residual for $0.62, came home thinking food would be there, but it ended up not arriving until an hour from when I ordered it, which is ridiculous given that Art’s is six minutes from here. They gave me a six-dollar credit for that inconvenience. As always, I said no tuna and two scoops of turkey salad and one of egg salad. They got it wrong again, and did two egg salads and one turkey, but that was fine. Then I did some writing and then sat on my couch like so much fish and watched the movie and videos, and here we are, with me in the middle of a sudden and nasty allergy attack.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll mostly write, I’ll eat something fun, and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll do some banking, write, send out the Kritzerland rehearsal schedule, and whatever else needs doing, and then the rest of the week is writing, making a show order, writing commentary, having a lunch meeting, getting a haircut – so, a very busy first week of June.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, mostly write, eat, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the busting out all over June is here and, of course, it is my fervent hope and prayer that June will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
