THE ATTACK OF THE VIETNAM BOTS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the mystery has been solved. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, the mystery has been solved. What mystery is that, you may ask and I might tell you and I shall tell you, not necessarily in that order. The mystery that has been solved is the mystery of 30,000 GUESTS or, more likely, BOTS. And you’ll never guess where we are so popular that we get over 30,000 GUESTS or BOTS. The answer will both amaze and mystify you. Are you ready? Vietnam. Yes, that’s right, we are being inundated by bots from Vietnam. Now, interestingly for these bots, I cannot remember a single instance until just now when the name Vietnam has ever been mentioned in these here notes or even in postings. So, why us? Why are these Vietnam bots so damn interested in this here site? Could it possibly be that they’re trying to learn about Whoop-Up and Subways Are for Sleeping and Drat! The Cat! and 70, Girls, 70? Do they have a sudden need to sing songs from CATS? Do they want to know who everyone’s favorite Mama Rose is? Do they want to know why certain songs were cut from shows? Or are they interested in extra crispy orange chicken or how the web series Outside the Box and Sami were created? Are they interested in the eating habits of a seventy-seven-year-old Jew? What are these bots really after? The other option is, these aren’t bots but actual people and perhaps we are THE most popular site in Vietnam. Now that our hosts have figured it out, that the Attack of the Vietnam Bots is taking place, their plan is to block the bots. No discussion, just block those Vietnam bots because those bots are what has caused the problems with slowness or being down altogether. Damn them, damn them all to HELL. Otherwise, I did manage to watch a motion picture last evening, a 2010 German crime film that felt more like a Nordic Noir, like The Killing or the Dragon Tattoo series. This was very well directed, it held the interest, but it’s very dark and very disturbing at times and no one in it is allowed a single second of happiness. Hard to recommend for that reason, but I was frequently held in suspense. Prior to that, I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered a ton of e-mails, had a telephonic conversation, ordered a chili, cheese, and onion hot dog from the Beverly Glen Deli that was at least decent, and then I began writing. Hours upon hours of mostly research, followed by writing. I managed to do fourteen pages, though, so that was good. I have done very little futzing and finessing yet, due to all the research and I have the feeling I’ll be adding quite a few little things when I get around to it later today – probably thirty pages of it. By  Wednesday, I should pass page 100 and then I’ll send those pages to Muse Margaret.

Just before the movie, I had a chicken breast from California Chicken Café and a small thing of chicken pasta salad, since the hot dog was hardly enough food for an entire day and evening. That was really about it, though. And there is a LOT of research coming up.

Today, I’ll be up by ten or thereabouts, I’ll do research and then write, I’ll probably do an errand or two, I’ll eat, and then I may go back and futz and finesse for a while, then continue writing. I’ll try to do ten to fourteen pages. Then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of that, making a show order, writing commentary, lots of book riding, seeing a show, maybe a meeting and a meal and praying for a modern major miracle.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten or thereabouts, do research, write, do an errand or two, eat, futz and finesse, write and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could say one thing to a Vietnam bot, what would it be? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that they solved The Attack of the Vietnam Bots.
